Raptors stuff.

Got a vintage Steel Guitar of the late 40s.
It`s a tripple neck Fender without pedals.

Fantastic creamy jazzy sound. Like Butterscottch.
They don´t make gear like that no more.

Got it for $100 - icluding a 1938 Tube Amp - in a little shop in Mesa/Arizona 15 years ago.

Now thy go for over $1000 the steel guitar allone.
Working and mint condition 1930s tube amp? Ha! Forget it.

I would never sell it.

I wish my "vintage" severs would get that prices someday.

Frank

hehe. The guy I sold my Wurlitzer to now runs a succesfull factory here in town.
And he will 'not' sell it back to me at any price.
Well, that SOB. Filthy rich now and forgets the guy that helped him out back in the day. That rotten tomato.

I also worked for the factory he stole his secretary from, the contract contacts she had which they used to secure the new biz , also some employess of that firm, all of which put the other biz... out of biz.

I still get along with him fine, but he owes me in my mind, not in his. Rotten bastard, really.

Ha, you know the rate at which comptuers are advancing thats probably not far,

as a side note, I remember my first day in my comp sci class, the prof said,

"I won't be recommending any reading material, because to be honest by the time things get publised the technology has moved on."

second lesson

"Open an internet browser, enter this url: www.google.com, ok kids semester over..."

:D ok i made the last one up :D

Doing some end of year updates. Click on images to view videos.

I did some work for L.A producer Julian Dean Shapiro recently. Great guy. I did the short cloud time lapse sequences with Vue6i. The artist is 'The Lone Wolf' and the song is 'Rivers'.

Click the image and select Portfolio.

The dvxleader I did for Timefest. Not sure if it's still in play. Jack Daniel Stanley added the audio in that version and did a great job.

A leader I did for Day Seven Studios, Larry R's company.

Rap, the link for the DVX leader has an extra http in it, and so comes up as an invalid link.

EDIT: And I would LOVE to do some sound design for LarryR's intro, if you hand he don't mind. PM me if interested.

Thanks for the error code Matt. I'll try and fix that.

PM-ing on the sound thing. Hold tight.

//Hey Josh. Missed you in the crossfire, hehe. Thanks man.

Right you were Matt, Jeez, howd you know that, hehe?
It's still not up yet after 13 hrs and it was only a 1.3MB video, but hey. They're a busy bunch these days so that's cool.

Hey thanks lawriejaffa. I'm hardly a master but thanks. I'm just about ready to hire a texturer if your interested, haha. Half kidding in a way. But if things pick up at all, I'll be sending you a PM, haha. Texturing really isn't my bag. Kind of like cutting grass. I'd rather pay someone else to do it :)

Many moons ago I was sending you some bluprints and stuff for your warbird project.
I wonder if you finished it.

Merry Christmas,

Frank

Merry Christmas Frank.

Not finished. I haven't spent much time on it. I needed more ram to get the detail (for closeups) I wanted so I decided to render it in sections for now. That way I can bring in more detail to the different pieces.

So I started bumping in the camlocks on the front engine panels area and started to bend up the edges of the panels a bit. Just the front peice right now.

I guess I should also paint up a lowpoly version for distant shots. I'm not worried about getting that done right now. I wanted to work on the closeup version because it's a bit harder.

No texturing yet.
Anyways here's some grabs of the current state it's in. The under side is similar to what to was before.

Hey Anhar. Mostly all box modelling with one level of smoothing to get the basic shaping.
2 levels I think for the final. 3 in some areas I think.

OOoooh thats looking gorgeous Raptor well done! So if you don't mind me asking what do you use for smoothing exactly? And how complex does it look before smoothing etc?

I love it!

Hey Lawrie.

By smoothing I just mean a Hypernurbs in C4D set for 1 subdivision.
Here's the very early version with no smoothing. I started with a disc of 26 subdivisions in this one. I think I reduced it a bit a few saves later to get the number of polys down just a tad after adding the hypernurbs.

I basicly roughed in the shape on the one side and later deleted the other and applied a Symmetry object.

And here's the above with a hypernurbs sub-d of 1. Usually then I make it editable and cut some parts out like the canopy.

I also disconnected the back half and melted some of the edges. You can see about mid way some edges are a bit wonky so after making it editable I cut and tweaked up some areas to clean up the mesh.

Like I say I may have lowered the original cylinder subdivision from 26 down to 24 or 22 a few saves later. This is save #3 so it was early on in the build.

Oh, if anyone is wondering why it's taking me this long to build a spit, it's because this is my baby. I did one before when I was first learning C4D, knocked it out and animated that for the deadline. But this one is a personal model. So, when I have time, I work on it.
I still need to add inner engine detail as well as cockpit detail, and painting/bumping. Going to be awhile. The last one I textured in 2 days. This one will be a long time.
Like I say, this is my baby, my personal project, and when it's done, it'll be done.

Sounds like you are building it the old fashioned way with glue and wood and paint. I know the feeling. You absolutely want to enjoy every minute of the crafting. The only problem will come when you know it is complete and you won't get to work on your baby anymore. But I guess you can always add detail here and there, go back and retool some part, and tinker away.
