Quicktime problem with FS-100

Thanks.

Yesterday I tried one with non-native and it worked like a charm.

When would I use native on the FS anyway?

When you need longer recording times. When you don't want to have to use the FCP advanced pulldown removal. Depends. It's all about flexability.

So are there any benefits to either using native on the FS or using advanced pulldown in FCP?

The obvious. You need to look at what your work flow needs are, and then decide how to best meet them. Native modes give you more recording time, that's all. QuickTime lets you bypass the re-wrap process in FCP's P2 Import window.

The first question is this; what are your specific needs?

I'm mostly concerned with getting the best looking footage possible. I'll probably mostly shoot 720 since that'll give me more footage.

As far as post goes, I like the ease of using Quicktime files since I can view the footage without importing it into FCP. But again, I want the end product to look as good as possible, so I'd want to have everything set up properly to achieve that.

P2, P2 Native, QuickTime, QuickTime Native, it'll all give you the exact same footage, the exact same quality.

Is it possible to read Quicktime recorded by FS-100 on windows XP ? Personnally I can't on my laptop windows XP ! Only on mac !!

There is no DVCProHD codec for Windows QT.

Without that codec, those files cannot be played in Windows XP or any OS in windows.

I know some people who are having the same problem as the original post. Some are on Avid xpress Pro HD, and one even on the canopus sytem. Same exact errors. Focus hasnt replied to any of thier help emails.. So it would seem the problem is the PC Quicktime, is lacking a HD codec? any ideas or news on a fix to this? i personally have not update to 3 on the fs yet.

Edius does not require a DVCProHD codec to be provided by QuickTime, it has it's own -- that's the reason why it can open and edit files that QuickTime itself won't. However, you need Edius Broadcast to do this, Edius Professional doesn't include the codec.

If the person who is experiencing a problem with Edius has the Broadcast version, I suspect there is something wrong with the file in question.
