Quicktime 7.4 Problem?

I've been editing with my new MacPro and have been having all kinds of problems with FCP. It keeps locking up and some of the QT files have gone corrupt. Is this because of the QT 7.4? I read in another post that there was a problem with 7.4. Has Apple addressed this yet.
I'm wary of doing any more editing, or going to my my back-up footage if the Quicktime is going to corrupt it.
Any info?
Thanks,
Seamus

What version of FCP, what version of the MacOS and what version of QT?

QT is at 7.4.1, Leopard is at 10.5.2, and FCP has two new updates and is at 6.0.2

Since v 7.3.1, QuickTime has had major issues and with each new revision, some of the older version's issues have been fixed, while new problems have been created. The newest versions have hobbled AE, FCP and my friend even had his System Preferences panel become corrupted and it was not able to work.

There are not a lot of quick and easy solutions to QT problems right now but I have heard of a utility you can buy called Pacifist that will let you painfully downgrade your QT back to 7.3. You should research all of this over at www.macfixit.com

The QT issues are all stemming from DRM. My friends MBP would not let him view any P2 clips over 10 minutes long, he got what you are getting which was digital noise and gray screen when he would try to play longer P2 and or QT clips. It's bad. This is a really bad disaster from Apple, it has pissed off and greatly inconvenienced a lot of users. Apple, sadly, seems to be foresaking their professional users for the bigger dollars of consumer products and issues like DRM have nothing to do with professional users trying to edit with FCP. It's sad.

You can update your quicktime again, apple fixed the bug

Not so fast. Always check with MacFixit.com before major updates. The last four QT updates have broken new things while trying to fix old things that the previous version had broken.

Also, a lot of people aren't aware that if you auto update your iTunes, it will be downloading and updating the latest version of QT, a lot of AE users got hosed on the last round.

DRM is an evil and dark thing for FCP users, Apple needs to figure out a way to make FCP users immune from all of the consumer DRM nightmare that this is the result of.
