Question about buying lens with UW date code

Hello all. I have the opportunity to purchase a Canon 24-105 lens, UW date code, for $900.

In Canada, a new lens costs $1,495. I'm wondering if there are any concerns with lens from 2008 (date code UW).

For example, perhaps they did a redesign of the lens in 2010? I haven't found any red flags on the web so I thought I'd ask here for any advice on the purchase.

By the way, it's for shooting video with my Canon 7D. Thanks.

Haven't made a final decision but I'm thinking of passing on the lens. 2008 is 3-years old and I figure there must be some improvements in the 2011 model.

Also, I read that Canon's quality control from lens to lens is a little sketchy, so the ability to take it back to the store becomes that much more important.

If anyone has any thoughts I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,

P.
