QuestFest - Official Rules - Please read carefully

question about the leaders. Our film (and I assume maybe a couple others) is 2.35:1. All of the leaders are 16:9. What are our options? Can we crop the leaders or pillarbox them, technically both those options would be "visually altering" the leader, but I REALLY don't want to have to letterbox my whole movie to fit the aspect ratio of the leader.

If you can crop the leader without cutting off any of the content, then that will be acceptable. Otherwise Pillarboxing is probably the best option.

just to follow up on this. Would THIS:

be okay?

It's much more pleasing than pillarboxing. (Nevermind motionbox's silly letterboxed player, my film is in 2.35:1, same as the video in the player.)

thanks Jason!

one more question. Do we have open viewing this time? You just have to sign in to vote right?

a few entries have had their approval delayed for the same reason, so here's a friendly reminder that the maximum running time for end credits is 15 seconds. :)

hi i just want to know if i can post up my movie for friends and family with color correction and titles as they didnt make it for the deadline!
One of the titles is actually crucial to the story as it indicates era and location.

Thanks!

Hey. Are you asking if you can post a film that you made for questfest but did not complete in time for the upload deadline?

If so, you can provide it to larry and he can put it in the exhibition cue.

If not, please elaborate. I didn't catch what you were saying.

later,
Jason

No, actually I meant if I can show my film that I uploaded to Quesfest (the art of living) with titles and color correction. I didn't have time to finish cc and titles for questfest. I know it's perhaps too late for questfest, but at least i want to be able to show it to others properly. I don't mean a screening at a filmfest, but people have been asking me if they can see my film, and I'd like to show them the best version possible of course. They're not dvxuser members but cast, crew and film community members here in Bangkok. I'm asking just to make sure this practice doesn't disqualify me.

I have a question about rating our own films. What is the norm here?

Are we allowed to rate our own? Does everyone just give themselves 10?

Honestly, I wouldn't give my film a 10 because I know there's room for improvement, but I don't want to put myself at a disadvantage either if everyone else is giving themselves 10s just because it is their own film. You know?

Can someone that has participated in a few of these before let me know the status quo? Thanks.

I don't know what everyone else does... but I don't vote at all for my film (leave it blank)... I don't see how you could?

You may not want to vote for your own film. As a mod said in a past fest: "it's not classy." And they're right. Besides, even if you won because of padding, what would that mean? It wouldn't be a true reflection of your peers and in the end you will have gained nothing but a false ego boost.

I've always strongly believed it's better to lose and learn than to win and learn nothing.
Depends on how you look at it I guess.

I have usually gone by not rating my films but when I made the finals (i.e. second round of voting) I was told that I then had to rate my film. Up to that point I had not.

So my suggestion would be to wait and see if you make the next round of voting.

I just set mine to 5 assuming that it was neither the best or the worse and that an average rating would have no overall effect. The mods have previosuly said that the system is pretty robust and one persons ratings wont have much of an effect.

Maybe they pass a Baysian filter over the results to reject the whacky ratings :bath:

It officially ends at 11am PST...not sure how long after till they reveal the results. I'm off to cut the grass in anticipation! :) Lol/
