QuestFest - Official Rules - Please read carefully

New Jersey and Philadelphia readers... Let me know if you want to collab.
I will be asking this in a few different areas.

Just another thought on the streaming options for viewing...

I don't know if I'm just really behind the times or how many other people may be in a similar boat, but my daily computer (laptop) is too slow to stream the motionbox videos and any HD vimeo movie. My editing computer can stream vimeo fine, but it's on an older OS and can't get the latest flash and/or latest browser in order to stream either motionbox or youtube HD videos. I should upgrade, I know, but "don't fix it if it ain't broke", right?

So, if we have a streaming option only, it might exclude some people like me who are stuck in the computer stone age.* Just food for thought.

*translation- Computer that is 3 years old or older.

we will also have the files available for download if we do that, so no worries there... there are a lot of logistical things to think about with this, so it might not even happen this fest.... just something we are working on.

yeah, we don't need or want a huge detailed pitch. just sell us your idea in a clean cut, concise manner.

maybe puckthemad will share his with you.

If your whole plotline changes, then yes, you might want to re-pitch us... other than that... no big deal.

---

On when to pitch, etc.... Whenever you want, but I would recommend the sooner the better, so you can get it out of the way, and if we request clarification or a new pitch, you can deaal with that and have it done early, rather than later.

later,
Jason

I cant see how writing a "pitch" will help other than putting off the less professional entrants. Is this the intention?
Providing I stick to the content rules, why should I need approval to make it?

It's a pitch people and it's standard wherever you go in the industry. You meet some busy investor who's got no time to meet you and you really need to get this guy nailed down, and he gives you the time in the elevator down to tell the story, you;d better have your elevator pitch prepared. It's your one shot at doing something and you;d better not blow it.. but turns out you can't because you never practiced tellin gyour story in one concise sentence. You don;t know why it's compelling, or what the core plot line is because the story diverges and splits too much and its complex and you don't want to sum it up and say "oh it's When Harry Met Sally" meets "Aliens", cuz that says nothing.

Pitches are good practice and these fests are about nothing else if not practice.

Besides, ever had a hard time telling an actor what the story is about? Can be embarrassing.

If you note, there's also going to be the screening in LA again this year. If and when that gets announced, it's open to all to attend, even those who didn't make the final 10. I'll leave that one open ended for you to draw yor own conclusions...

I think the pitch idea sounds great, excellent idea gents, that should allow for a bit of creativity on the part of the filmmaker and a bit more consistency for the festival!

I guess this means the traditional last minute entries are going to have to move a lot faster in order to get in. Or at least get greenlit early on.

yup. you need to allow at least a day in order to get a response, as it isn't going to just be the person you send your pitch to making the decision.

and, might be best to allow a bit more than that if we come back and ask for further clarification or re-pitch or whatever.

Later,
jason

I think I'm going to enter Quest Fest. I've been watching these fests since sci fest...and needless to say I'm a little scared about my first entry! Better get to work. :)

No worries...jump in, the waters fine!
(but watch out for the sharks)

Ok, so my short pitch got a tentative yes but they want more details. My pitch clearly gives the theme so what exatly is it that you guys actually want?

All this does is put me off doing this. I'm a software engineer who makes films for fun. Why should I have to tell them all of story before I make it? This is not Fun!

Maybe you should post up some examples for the non-professionals to read, rather than make us guess. Not everyone on here is even remotly interested in getting hollywood contacts.

Dude, I'm in the Navy making films for fun. This is TOTALLY FUN!

It goes beyond just making the film...you ARE the director/producer. If they want more details, go over plot points, character vibes and personas. Rock their house!
