QT DVCProHD Footage In Windows

If I want to play DVCProHD footage in XP or for that matter encode is using ProCoder or CinemaCraft to mpeg2, is there a plug in for the Quicktime in Windows that will enable me to play it natively?

Not convert it. But, put DVCProHD QT files imported on a Mac via p2 Log or FCP and then saved to a HD and opened in some manner in the QT Player in Windows.

And as I said using those files to encode HD to SD mpeg2.

Thanks

I've not had any luck playing QT files containing DVCProHD video, even on a system that has both the Adobe/Serious Magic DVCProHD Decoder and Canopus Edius on it. It seems that QuickTime doesn't know how to utilize third-party DirectShow codecs.

If I take that same QT file and drop it into the Edius timeline, I can play it without problems. Of course, once it's in the Edius timeline, I can also use ProCoder to create a SD MPEG2 file. I have not tried loading a DVCProHD QT file directly into ProCoder, but I can do that if you wish.

not going to work - that codec wrapped in a QT wrapper won't play on Windows based systems AFAIK - Apple has no motivation to make it work on Windows...

DVFilm Maker will convert it without recompression to Raylight AVI and then it will play back in most windows apps.

You can't do it because Apple refuses to make their own format cross-platform compatible, even within their own cross-platform application.

You can import those files into Avid or EDIUS and they'll play there, but nowhere else. Avid and EDIUS include the necessary components (unless I'm horribly mistaken). But Apple's Quicktime won't recognize those components; it would have to be played within Avid or within EDIUS.
