Ptool for beginners / Ptool FAQ

Hey guys, Im not on the hacked firmware yet but want to be. I have only one question. Will the 'version compare patch' allow me to use hacked firmware and if I ever needed to, I could go back to original panasonic firmware like when it was first purchased with no traces of hack firmware? Thanks.

I have moved to Brazil and that is not an option for me. I pay 60% import tax over anything that comes from outside of Brazil (yes, you heard right, 60%!!). Since my sister from California is coming to visit me in August it is a great opportunity to get the SD card without having to pay this outrageous taxes.
 
If i patch the GH1 with higher AVCHD-Bitrates, would this affect also the 720 L- and H-Mode, sometimes i need a strong compression and small files.

Does ptool work with Panasonic TZ7/ ZS3?

I have tried to load in Ptool the firmware for Panasonic TZ7/ZS3, but the program always says it is corrupt. I have downloaded it many times.
I have also tried to load the Panasonic TZ4 firmware with no effect.

It is not clear to me if Ptool works with these firmwares or if for some reason it is only resctricted to Panasonic GH1 and GF1.

Maybe I am missing something?

How can I check the bitrate I shoot the native AVCHD footage at. I have a mac. When I transcode into FCP (4:2:2 ProRes), the transcoded clip reports a data rate of 13.3MB/s. Presumably, this is different to the original MTS file?
 
I tried ptool 3.37d.
AVCHD improvement is my first interest, so I tried the setting "c".

1st:
native 24p/25p
video bitrate adjustment fhd/sh simplified: 50000000
video bitrate adjustment H: 50000000
video bitrate adjustment L:16000000
overall bitrate adjustment: 52000000
limited bitrate adjustment:60000000
1080p GOP: 12

FHD:success avg13~23Mbps max28Mbps (changed by each scene)
SH:nothing changed from default avg9~10Mbps
H:nothing changed from default avg9~10Mbps
L:slightly improved? avg12~13Mbps max18Mbps

H:camera freezed. so I took tha battery out

The Ptool is working with firmware for G1, Gh1 and Gf1 only.
The firmware for TZ7/ZS3 is encrypted, hence the message.

Yes.
You still have to generate a version higher than 1.32, but the compare option will allow you to load any version that is different from what is in the camera at the time. This includes the original Panasonic firmware, which will by definition have a lower number.

is there a thread that explains exactly the difference between 'MJPEG E QUALITY' and 'MJPEG E TABLE' and the relationship between them and why the difference between the 4 settings on each. I think i understand it, but some of my changes just haven't worked at all, so i may have missed something, cheers

is it now possible or not to update the cam with an original firmware 1.32 that also shows as 1.32 in the gh1´s menu? I´ve read that somewhere but I can´t even find it anymore and the faq still says "no" on that topic.

I believe it was described using the version change patch instead of the incrementing patch, but I need to know for certain before I go for it.

Hi All , Here many people talked about Video Buffer , But when I use PTool V3.36 Open the original firmware GH1_132.bin , I just cant find where to se Video Buffer . Please help how to set video buffer ? Thanks
