Prosumer 1080 60P Options?

I have read a lot of posts on this topic, but I am still confused (I am outdated technologically). I think high def tv is capable of displaying 1920X1080 at 60p while HMC-40 does 1920X1080 30p. In this forum I have read many posts regarding various 1080 and 720 shooting formats and I understand beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

But, I wonder, is there any prosumer camcorder in the $2000 range that would do 1080 60p and if so would it allow more detailed (sharper) display using a capable video projector or am I not understanding this 30p or 60p correctly?

Admittedly I still have a lot to learn, and appreciate time and patience of forum members.

Also, a documentary video producer I have talked to says I should only shoot in 1080 60i since "most TV's still use interlaced display." In my case I will primarily just use my footage for my own enjoyment on high def so assuming I buy the HMC 40 should I use 1080 30p shooting parameter to get most detailed display on high def to or projector? Most of my video is scenery but also occasionally video sports car races. I see some prefer 720 60p for fast action video.

Not in the US. Broadcast TV in the US uses 1080 at 60i, or 720 at 60p.

The TV set itself is probably capable of several other frame rates, because DVD and blu-ray include other frame rates. IIRC, DVD also supports 30p and 24p, while blu-ray also supports 24p.

This just off the top of my head. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Again. ;)

Depends on your definition of "prosumer". Consumer Panasonic 600/700/800/900 can do FullHD as well as three 2011 consumer models from Sony and I believe a couple of JVC models.

All LCD and most plasma displays (save for Hitachi) are progressive-scan and deinterlace interlaced video.

30p - more strobing. 720p60 - lower resolution, but still looks very good and is compatible with consumer equipment and with broadcast specs.
