Problems with blur when zoomed in using wide angle

Okay, so I got a DVX100a recently, and my mom got me a telephoto and wide angle adapter, and they're quite big, they screw into the front of my camera and really look more like lenses without f-stops. The wide angle really widens things up, but unfortunately I have to zoom in a little so that you don't get that barrel effect on the corners where you can see the lens (any other ideas on how to get past this?)

My question is this. When I'm using the wide angle lens, and I zoom in for DOF, I end up with like a blur or something on the sides of the frame so that things will end up out of focus when something right next to them is in focus. I thought it might be dirty so I cleaned it, but that's not the problem. has anyone had this problem, or is it a problem with my adapter and should I go ***** the company out? Or is it a wide angle's nature to not be able to look good in zoom and I should do all my DOF shots without it? I'm kinda stuck, any suggestions are welcome. :)

The 'barrel effect' around the edges is called "Vignetting" and the only thing you can do to get past it is to zoom in.

Barry Green (one of the mods on this site) has a new book out that sounds like it will be very beneficial to you all about the DVX and the wide angle adapter and a whole bunch of things.  I'd consider getting it.

I believe the BOOK comes with the Anaguide.

As for the blur, it sounds like you probably just have a low-quality wide-angle lens. Does it say "Digital Optics" or "Crystal Optics" or "Crystal Vision" on it? If so, it's probably just the lens and there's nothing you can do about it.

The DVX's lens is very large and very wide, and a quality wide-angle adapter is expensive; the Century .6 is about $330, but it's a great wide-angle.

also, if you're trying to get a shot with shallow DOF don't use the wide anlge to zoom in, use the telephoto! (or no lens adapter at all).
