Problems With Adobe CS4 or us?

Hi guys and girls,

We are new to editing, but we are, for the most part, doing pretty well with figuring out CS4. We are using an HPX170. We shot a chase scene in 720/24p. Whe imported the footage into CS4 and it plays great in the Source window. The problem; if you simply edit out a short piece and drop it into the time line, when viewing it in the program monitor on the right, the video looks notchy. We have tried everything we can think of. If you continue on an render out and produce a movie through CS4 Media Encoder, the results are the same, notchy video. Even if you do NO editing and just render out and encode the raw footage the results are the same.

We are setting up the project and the scence, by the book, so to speak.

We have also done some test chase scenses since using different formats; standard def and also 720/60p with the same results. It is like something is happening to the video when you drop it into the time line.

Machine specs:

PC with XP Professional with service pack 3
7200 rpm 150 gig hard drive with very little on it
2.8 gig processor/core two duo
4 gigs of ram

We have had the same results on another machine with virtually the same specs and also on an HP laptop.

Thanks in advance for the help

Hi David,

No we were shooting in Video Cam mode as opposed to Film Cam so it was straight 720/24p footage. I should have mentioned in the origional post that we were shooting this demo footage for a local producer from an R/C Helicopter specifically designed for the HVX 200 and HPX 170. However it will carry a variety of other cameras as well.

Can I ask how many Hard drives are iactually n your system Wayne?

"PC with XP Professional with service pack 3

2.8 gig processor/core two duo
4 gigs of ram"

One would be an issue!

Hi Shooter,

I have two 7200 rpm 320 gig hard drives. My brother is the computer "nerd" in the family, so I had him set the system up per Adobe's instructions. One of the drives is specifically for video.
Edit: We are going to upgrade the processor to a quad core here very shortly, although the machine is doing fine now.
