Problem with firestore.

I just heard back from the Focus Enhancements folks and they said the following:

"With the FS-4 Pro HD model you can only shoot in 720 30P or 1080 60i in the quicktime format. If you opt for the FS-C, which is the Canon specific model, you will be able to shoot in 1080/24F and 1080/30F in Quicktime as well."

So as you say Javi, may work in 24P but only in the Canon model. I've looked all over for the Canon model but don't see on specifically listed, from places like BHphotovideo.com and others. Maybe I will check Canon's site.

Well, I have the FS-C model with the quicktime update and there is no option for 24f in HD. If you go down to SD then yes you get a 24f option in quicktime. But not in HD. No 720 or 1080. If you want to record HD the only option is 1080i 60i. No 720p 24p. I should have been a little clearer sorry about that.

I had a similar problem when I recorded my last music video. I couldnt get the problem to repeat itself but we had REALLY loud music playing. The worst skipping was during close-ups on a drummer.

This issue should be brought out in the open. I could piece together my music video from the parts and I was lucky and it turned out fine this time.

Hi Javi, here is the latest on the subject from Focus Enhancements. Do you agree with their comments regarding what you said for the HD recording?

"There is no option for frame rate in the menu system of the FS-C - The only exception is the 24P option in standard definiton as he stated, which is probably why there was confusion. This doesn't mean that it does not record 24F, only that it does not require you to select a frame rate. You only have to pick whether you want to record in Quicktime or M2T. You set your camera for 24F, and the firestore will capture what it is reading from the camera."

Ok, I tried recording 24f to the firestore while set to quicktime in HD and from what I remember it did not let me. But I will try again for you. I might be wrong. But thats what I remember happening...I will try it again and let you know...

Ok so here are the results. When my A1 is set to 1080 24f and the firestore is set to HD quicktime it does NOT work. On the camera it shows the drive is there but when I hit record the symbol turns red as if its going to start recording but when you look on the firestore it says please wait with a progress bar moving across the screen and then BY ITSELF it stops recording. This all happens within 2 seconds, so it never captures anything. It just looks like if the firestore errors out or something..Hope this helps.

It might be advised to lose the personal advertisement in your sig.

I don't think the forum permits this, and it is a little over the top, doncha think?

i will take it off but i have seen others do the same. Actually thats where I got the idea. So I figured it was legal. I have not been told anything by any mod. But I will check with them if it is againt the rules then off it goes.

Here you go Javi. More from Focus Enhancements. Their tech support folks seem quite helpful. You may want to contact them to trouble shoot. Here is the info:

"
He may not have version 2.1 firmware installed on his FS-C. He can check it in his Setup menu, third line down- 2.1 was the version that allowed support for the F mode in Quicktime.

FYI, what you are dealing with here was one of the reasons we got RID of the FS100 completely. after we butchered up 3 recordings out of 10 takes we decdied the P2 workflow was safer and more robust and sold the thing and bought two 16gb cards which gives us a continuous workflow to record without stopping (3 in the cycle) and what a blessing!

we dumped the fs100 cuz of this problem AND to eliminate another battery to have to worry about AND so that we could see what our storage media was doing ON THE HVX100 SCREEN - AND - to eliminate another cumbersome cord!

hope this helps with the future.

well yea that is the main reason I am thinking of switching to an HVX from my a1. I really think the P2 system will be more reliable.
