Hi All,

I was very thrilled to check the results I got with my 50mm canon 1.8 lens. But when I used it in the night with a UV protector I notice floating glares in the frame. Im attaching a video which shows the problem in the bottom of the frame. I tried changing the filter but the problem still exists. Though I dont get it when I dont use the filter. Any advice? Thank you all.

I guess the first question I would ask is....Why are you using a UV filter at night? As I understand it, a UV filter filters Ultraviolet light. I don't imagine you would be getting much of that at night. and it is bouncing the light around which is why you're getting the "floating glares".

Thanks for your reply. I use the UV filter also to avoid dust in the lens. The thing is I dont get those glares in any other lens. (18-55 & 55-250)

That would probably depend on the shape of the glass in the lens. (as to how much flare you get) Just depends on where the source light is, how it bounces off the glass.
