ok so my Friend (the actor you see there) contacted me about shooting this for him to help him get into acting in LA. (he's moving there). little did i know it was such a big task....i thought i was just gonna shoot a little thing. So i got to look on the script the 2 days before shooting and realized this needed ALOT of work. so i spent half to day rewriting and revising or more like revamping the script but keeping it true to his story. Called my other friend and we headed down (2.5 hr drive) to the location the next day. we had nothing really...but my cam (shouldermount rig), my mics, and my other friends zoomh4n which i borrowed. arrived scouted the location in about an hour and then sat down to to type out and do more work on the scprit. Next day was the shooting day but realize this script was even more work because alot of the shooting coudnlt be done the way we would have liked which would have made things easier. the film had to be shot in a certain sequence because of that beard you see him sporting. we had to show the passage of time..so we have 4 levels to the beard. This film was lit with sunlight, 2 18w CLF's in clamp lights, and by campfire so i will have to see if i can get neat video plugin. (told u we had nothing to work with). I didnt even have a my tripod cuz the old cheap one crapped out on me and I ordered a Sachtler which wont be here till maybe next week if i'm lucky. So i had to improvise. The Actor is an ex proskater....so he had alot of skate bourds laying around...and he had an old crappy photo tripod....sooo the pic below was the result. This was shot on location in Mandeville, Jamaica.

All i have to say after this is...just go out and do your film. Before this, i had alot of excuses and reason why i couldnt sit down and do my films. but this forced me to do a mammoth task in a couple days with practically nothing ...and it was really good experience. More grabs to come.

the above is a colour grade test which i like so i think that will be close to the final look.

I love your dolly!

I'm eager to see how this turns out. I love big production stuff, but when the crew is small, the gear is minimal, and it's actually indie (instead of the $100,000 budget "low budget" films), I love those! Keep it up!

Expected finished date?

well..the Actor would like it for some film fest in LA for may 11 but thats a bit much for me...cuz i have "real" work to do and have to do this between jobs and i may also have to travel for a little. but theres a fest in june in Jamaica that i will wanna show it at....so def by then. I'm really gonna try getting on it though...and try make may sometime. I will post moving images of these grabs soon.

thanks fellaz :) really wish i actually has some lights to work with. instead of weak 18w clf's but maybe if i waited for everything to be perfect there wouldnt be a film.

That's exactly what I realized about a year ago. I was making one MAYBE two short videos a year. Since that realization, I've made ...9? 10? Who know. And they were not all winners, but I learned something and got better on each one.

I like contrast in dolly shots more than 2 first ones, they were more natural and filmlike instead of too contrasty video with strong dark and whites.

more messing around with grading
