Prime Lens Set

I dunno man. The nikkor 24mm f2 is a bad designed lens.
Creates a lot of ghosts and flares way to easily. I sold mine in favor of the 24mm f2.8

without having to look up all those lenss to see the prices, what was the savings if you bought this set?

The RPlens sets are good because they are geared. I hate redrock gear rings, haha.

The 24mm F/2.8 is much better than the F/2, imo... but the 24mm still has some perspective barrel distortion when I pan by close vertical edges. Surprisingly I rented a Nikon 20mm F/2.8, and it was fantastic. Wider perspective, but with equal or better performance in regards to distortion.

The ZF lenses are amazing quality. I used to use them whenever I could. Zeiss just rebarreled them for cine use (reversing the focus rotation, geared, etc) as the Compact Primes lens series. Both the ZF's and thier Cine brothers are considerably more expensive than a Nikkor set.

Rplens converted all of my high speed old Nikons.

They redampened the focus, declicked the iris mechanisms, press fitted delrin focus gears onto them and put 80mm step-up fronts on them.

Couldn't be happier! :2vrolijk_08:

They do great work.

OK, Matt and Ryan I'm sold. I will let you know how it works out. I may buy pick up the Nikon 20mm for safety...Anybody know where to get one? I wonder if RPLens will gear it for me???

I have the 24mm F2.8 lens, and am using it on an APS-C senor. I have not seen any barrel distortion at all, with the crop factor (Where it has the angle of view of a 38.4mm lens on a FF35mm sensor). Were you using it on a FF35mm sensor? It is a great little lens. I have also become very fond of the 35mm F2.8 Nikkor. I am keeping my eyes open for the 20mm F2.8 Nikkor also.

Sorry, can't speak to the FD set. If the lenses have not been modified for cine use (De-clicked aperture, reversed focus, ect), then, at least for the std speed Nikon lenses, $3500.00 seems very high for the set.

FD is not compatable with the EOS because of flange distance, your best option is the nikkor and use an adapter.

As an earlier poster mentioned the 20mm 2.8 is great and so is the 24mm 2.8.
The 24mm 2.0 is the bad apple. Nikon is not infallible
