So if I was using Avid Xpress PRO HD on PC, do I need raylight or cineform or anything like that? This is so annoying, Premiere should make a fix. This is the only time in my life i've ever wished I had bought a mac.

If you use Avid, you don't need any other software, and Avid can actually directly edit off the card (so you don't need to do the unwrap/rewrap process of Apple, CineForm, or Raylight).

However, Avid support isn't all-encompassing yet. Last time I checked, there were still quite a few modes that weren't fully supported (such as 1080/24p on a 24p timeline). Hopefully the next version will "get it right."

but what about DVracks, DVCpro Conversion software? it supposed to be fast and covert everythign to 422 lossless AVI files. isnt that supossed to be the perfect solution?

click on products, then DVCpro Decoder software.

Neither CineForm nor DVRack will allow you to record your edited movie
back to the camera, of the 3 only Raylight can do that.

I dont like to enter the PC v. Mac, but I like Apple. 16gig ram, and 4 interal HD bay slots :) Nice!!!!!!!

but WHEN would you need to go BACK to the camera which only hold 8gig max I assume?

I presume to show a 20 minute short or 20 minute reel, trailer or sample scene of a HD movie at the very best quality (much better than DVD or WM9 for example). It was the #1 most requested feature for Raylight before version 2.0. I imagine its very useful for showing to investors, clients, distributors, etc

so save the DVCpro files on your laptop, and play it from there. seems backwards to do it from the camera....

dusterdoo the p2 cards record continiously across both 8 gig cards so between the 2 you can hold 16gig not 8gig

Plus whos stopping you from hot swapping multiple cards to play video that spans 3 or more cards. They do that in theaters with multi reel films.

16 giigs is plenty of HD playback time for :30 tv commercials, short films, and music videos. Not everyone has an HD playback device other than their computer or their camera.

I'm beta testing the 3.0 upgrade that will give it five recording modes.
DV Raw
P2
P2 Native
QuickTime
QuickTime Native

So, in a couple of weeks, yes, it will do 24pN.
