Predators..... Robert Rodriguez

I continue to be inspired by him.... does that make me wanna be?

:undecided
Ohh no, I'm sorry Brandon. I ment the people who talk and dream about shooting a movie thier whole life and never go out and do it.

My fault on that post for not being more clear, it wan't a reference to you being a wanna be. Not at all.

You have been a big inspiration in your threads to thousands of indies here that wish they could do what you are doing!

ok... yeah, just double checkin' lol. no harm done.

I do view RR as an inspiration, I like what he does on the budgets he has, I like his "go get em'" attitude, and maverick style.

And I personally LOVE his dialog writing.

That's cool...just remember the audience doesn't care about any of that stuff. They don't care about the budget, or the attitude, or if one guy was the writer, director, editor, composer, caterer, key grip and the nine billion other jobs RR does on his films. All they care about is the story being told in front of them, whether it was made by one guy in his garage, or by one thousand crew members. Personally, I would rather RR hire people who know what they are doing then insist on doing it all himself, just because he can. Is it any coincidence his best film was written by somebody else?

I like his "go get em'" attitude, and maverick style.

90% go get em attitute and 10% ceative talent. He would have WAY more success being a producer and bringing in a more qualified director.

I think he is going to ruin Predators by giving it a cheapness.

Based on what?...I think RR's film output has been pretty piss poor actually. Sin City is the only film of his that is worth a damn. I think he's more notable for being an inspiration to independent filmmakers than he is for the quality of his actual films.
Boy do I have to agree with that.

While the first half of From Dusk Till Dawn looked like it had potential, the second half was unwatchable. Outside Sin City he is nothing to shout about as a filmmaker...as an inspiration, well, that's another matter.

What ever happened to RR's movie he co-directed with Tarantino, Grindhouse?

Looking into it.

http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=grindhouse.htm

Harvey W. must have embezeled $60 million of that $67 million budget. They should just give RR a DVX100 and $100k budget, it's the only way he won't loose anyones money anymore.

LOL...Reminds me of a joke Chris Rock made about Blair Witch's $60,000 budget--

"Somebody's walkin' around with 59,000 dollars in they pocket!"

And Grindhouse only made 25 million! Ouch! And to add insult to injury only $350,000 foreign!

I agree Sin City was certainly his best but he is a huge inspiration to me as well. His 'one man production' attitude is something I took to heart and tried to model my skills after.

His succes and book helped show me that anyone can make it in this buisness if they truely have a passion for it because you will find a way. Also, his contribution to digital filmmaking is HUGE. I'm looking foward to the Predators movie.

Don't get me wrong RR has a good track record of making the studios money but it's only on low budget indie type movies under $10 million budgets.

I still think this new RR movie is going to be a financial disaster.

I agree. You like bad movies and I don't. :)

Hey, don't feel bad Brandon, I really enjoyed all of Rodriguez's films. I also liked M Night Shyamalan's last two films, which were both universally panned by ciritcs and audiences, yet I really didn't like critical darlings "No Country for Old Men" and "The Departed".

It really is all subjective.

If you want to see a really kick arse bad film, check out Zardoz. It is a fascinatingly bizarre sci-fi fantasy that John Boorman made in the 70's.

Yes, but I also like "good" movies too (some examples: Godfather I + II, Aliens, Blade Runner, There Will Be Blood, All the President's Men, Network, Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan, Indiana Jones 1-3, and pretty much any Stanley Kubrick/Alfred Hitchcock/Terence Malick film just to name a few).

So if a person likes some movies universally considered to be bad, and some that are universally considered good or great... while also hating or disliking other films that are considered great as well as also not liking some that are considered bad... then is it not all subjective from viewer to viewer?

I do admit to liking some bad films though. Sometimes it is just fun to watch something that sucks. Planet Terror, for example. It was so silly and over the top but also lots of fun seeing how far they'd take it.

And since I should be talking about Predator, the first one was a great action film. One of Arnold's best films next to Terminator, T2, and Total Recall. Predator 2 on the other hand, well, let's just forget about that one.

I know, but I want to make sure that I didn't give anyone a false impression that I exclusively like only crappy movies.

Nothing wrong with that, if you have been followng this thread you'll see that RR loves crappy movies!

I hope D. Trejo dosen't find this thread from his other post he made on dvxuser. Anyway, Danny is a great actor!
