Possible Base Package

Hi,

Excuse me if this has been treated here before... just couldn't seem to find any thread with this exact question (probably a question of semantics, but I'll just go ahead and ask anyway)

What do we possibly expect from a Red Base Package @ $17.5k?

I guess my confusion lies in the the Red's team (God bless their souls for all of the positive vibe of hope they have indeed bestowed on this very able body of creative like minded spirits) explanation of what we should be hoping to get from our 17.5k investment.

- Just a camera body?
- Viewfinders, mics etc?

Any help would do. Ciao!
:dankk2:

I'm thinking camera body , a PL (positive lock) mount and some kind of display. Viewfinder, cage rails, lens and other such things will be optional. That is my understanding anyways.

Camerabody, PL mount and LCD/?? display. I think they are going to include batteries but not shure.

How about a CASE? Box for transportation. Would be nice.

Everything else are going to be optional.

I believe a battery is included, but I can't be 100%. I simply presumed it was from threads I've read in the past. It was my understanding that a second battery (which most would deem necessary for pro shoots) would be another accessory to shell out for. Personally I'd find it odd if it wasn't supplied with one initially.

The Camera should hopefully have internal 64gb flash memory built in.

Theoretically speaking I believe that if you already own a PL mount Lense you should be able to shoot something out of the box. Many people seem to dismiss this BUT the point is that you wouldn't have much fun on a professional set if you turned up with only 64gb of internal memory, one battery that lasts the morning only and one none cine lense without a decent follow focus. For personal use however a PL mount lense and the 17.5k would allow you to begin shooting.

As far as audio goes I'm not too sure about whether you would need a seperate mic to begin with or if it has something built in, but there are budget options for this. Again however if you want to be a pro you'll want to buy pro equipment. But there is no reason not to start with the basics and work your way up - the beauty of modularity - You simply won't get the most out of the camera is all.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't come with a built in mic, and honestly, I have a few problems with someone willing to put 17k on a camera, record 4k images and use a built-in mic...

yes a built in mic, and hopefully an internal charger for the batterie, which is shipped with the camera - an autofocus, a stabilizer, also a built in flashcard reader, maybe a dvd recorder also a mp3 player would be nice - oooh - isn´t Jim also doing sunglasses - perfect we could integrate sunglasses as well !!! if not integrated pls deliver it in an extra case.
Forgot to say, that the people are happy with any function where they can mark their shoots - on a touchscreen monitor - i am sure - red will make his screen as a touchscreen - but over all - 17.500 US$ is a lot of money - and all this stuff must be included.....

Thanks guys for all of your input.

Hey ludmux, how can u forget to add the most pivotal function for a cool dude like u - a remote memory stabilizer sync function - haaaaaaa!

I did say this when I commented on the audio. Yes Ludmux we get it. Everyone who is buying this camera understands that they will need to spend more money to have the best accessories and that by no means does $17,500 mean that we can go and shoot a top class motion picture. And Taubkin I wasn't suggesting that anyone could expect to have amazing sound quality if there was a mic built in anyway. I'm pretty sure my comments were pretty clear that you had to spend money to get the best out of the camera, but it doesn't defeat the fact that you don't actually need to spend too much more to be able to at least use it, if only to begin learning how to operate the camera on a basic level - understanding the on camera features, getting to grips with physically handling the thing and experimenting with a larger workflow than you are use to.

It just seems like everytime a question like this is asked on this forum we inevitably return to the "too many people haven't got a clue that they're going to need to spend more to use it professionally" theme... It's getting old.

This is for Jim and/or Graeme. Cosmetically speaking, stainless steel or the aluminium alloy you had on the RedOne model at the IBC actually looks quite cool and "different".

Any thoughts on a possible option for the consumer regarding choice of camera body finish? Aluminium alloy or black magnesium alloy? like you have on your site.

Probably irrelevant but just thought I should get out out of my chest.

That's a nice wish list.

I find it strange that so much on that list is still not shown on the basic camera.

Could someone point out the flip out hi res LCD (not a VF)
to me? Or maybe it's folded into the body in this pic.

How about the XLR audio connection(s) or battery? Or maybe they are just on the other side of this "drawing".

I'm sure it's there! Somewhere!

It's funny how they keep updating the artwork of what this camera will look like yet leave so much, which so many expect to be included, off.

I, like many others, can't help but wonder...why is that?

It's one reason many of us have doubts about the true date this camera will come off the drawing board and be available for use in the real world.

but hey, those pictures sure look nice don't they! :)

Jay I think you should beat yourself up....if it is any consolation. Just kidding! No one knows everything.....except maybe Conrad Hall.

I hope it comes with an onboard battery and charger.. And hey, where would an onboard battery fit?

Its not like I run out and really but an order in for a Arri or CineAlta... but most of the big cameras... if I remember right you buy all the goodies extra...

That's why it'd be nice... which probably won't happen until the camera is released you could buy the big meal deal... the whole thing from Red for a a discounted price...

The XLR input is on there, in the back under the screen or whatever

That's what I was afraid of.

Just one!

Nothing like shooting mono for a seventeen plus grand worth of initial investment.:)

Actually, if you look closely that's a 4-pin XLR connector, which is for power, not sound. In this preliminary body design, they appear to be on the other side, which most camera ops would prefer....

Seems no one really knows. Is it a four pin connector? I have yet to see any XLR input(s) "appear" anywhere.

Lots of guessing about some basic functions which only adds to the confusion.
