I did, at 24p, I tested different shutter speeds and they were worse, the flourescents inside that ship were pretty awful, so I'm not sure there was a perfect solution.

Hopefully the strobing is bad enough to distract from the shooting mistakes I made! :huh:

1/50th is correct Mike. 24 frames per sec is what we want, double that and you get 1/48th per sec.
so on the 550D, the closest thing we have to 1/48th is 1/50. Bloom and all others have confirmed this.
 
:) nope. like is said, 24 fps (1/50th) or 30 fps (1/60th) are both good to go.
30 fps is actually a cleaner look, but slightly less cinematic.

I use both.

Spread the word on every forum, everywhere. No 1/48th. No 1/250th. If it's a CMOS camera (including EX3, Red One, 7D, 5D, 1D Mark IV, HV20, it doesn't matter, as long as it's CMOS) then it's going to have this problem, and the only way to solve it for good is to use 1/60th (in the USA) or 1/50th (in Europe) and DON'T CHANGE IT.

Mike, ok very interesting, having read the thread you posted about what Barry said.
Just to close this discussion, and sorry guys if we hijacked your thread, but i think this important
due to the flicker you (and I) encountered.

I still believe 1/50th is correct because it is the closest thing to 1/24th which is double 24 FPS.
But what Barry is saying is: Just use 1/60th, it's close enough to 1/50th, and it will circumvent
any possible future issues with light strobing.

i get it now.

They're both close, and one eliminates strobing. At least most of the time. :)

Not that most people would notice the difference between 1/50 and 1/60.
They'll notice the strobbing though, that I assure you. :)

I've read everywhere in most professional editorials and guides that 1/50th should always be used for shutter speed and never deviated from. When I try 1/60 it has a noticeable "video" look, i.e. the 30 frames per second look that video was traditionally shot on, at least to me.
 
I believe Tom will be grinding it out, I am too busy trying to get my condo on the market (awesome time for that!) and getting my life squared away to move 1300 miles.
