Just curious how many out there would definitely buy (or strongly consider buying) a DVCPRO-HD (and DVCPRO-50) enabled version of Serious Magic's DV Rack.

I'd likely buy it. I'd be surprised if they didn't develop it. Even though I've got a G5 for editing, I also have a Dell Laptop I could use for capture to an external drive. I'd like to see a 180 flip built in for use with 35mm adapters.

Hey all you Mac guys... what do you find most lacking in just running FCP on a laptop? Works fine for me... Would you buy DVRack rather than that?

mainly real time video scopes and mock video monitor with color bars full screen

Actually FCP has a realtime waveformonitor and vectorscope and a pretty ingest nice interface:

But I would still like a more robust load Application if I should use it in the field..

I'm still hoping they'll come out with a pro version as well. Add things like;

1. Dual system audio support, with upto twenty tracks.

2. Camera remote controls

3. Multi camera support.

4. Is the focus assit available for HD?

I'm sure there's many other bells and whistles others can think of as well. I think some one wanted a rocket pack at one time.

yeah, and maybe horizontal & vertical flip for 35mm lens adapters...that'd be the bomb. Or, maybe RR Revolution will hand DVCPRO?

Like a good percentage of creative professionals we're Mac based in all media studios.
When I first heard of DV Rack I was impressed and ready to ordera couple of packages assumimg ot was cross platform.

I had a discussion with a nice guy (can't remember his name) at Serious about them missing the boat by suggesting that their product was so good that Mac producers should buy PC laptops just to run it.

My suggestion is, as it was then, that the way to develop relationships is not to ask people to accomodate your business, but for you to accomodate the people you want as customers.

By the responses here, HD Rack looks like it would be another great but short sighted product.

Yep. Must've been the same guy I talked to.

Well said, but you have to wonder why another company doesn't see an opening here. Clearly there's a demand. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for FCP 5.5 if it got all that DV Rack has that FCP now lacks.

I have the PC version but do not use it because I want and need it on a Mac. So unless they make a Mac version I will just not use it.

That said I do not think they will make a Mac version as Serious Magic seems to be a very PC centric company with products aimed at administrative assistants putting Power Points together and those who want to perform quick talk head chroma keys. I asked them about this at a Streaming Media conference I attended last year and they almost suggested the Mac is a dead product and they could not justify the time and expense for such a tiny market. They suggested I get a PC laptop and run it off that instead.

So all us Mac users will be left out on this one and I really was not left with a warm welcome. If they do port it I would look at it and consider an upgrade but it would have to conform to published Mac software interface standards and not some Java application.

I would not hold my breath on this one fellow Mac supporters.

Count me in

Count me in

I would buy one for sure.... I was thinking about buying the DV rack with HDV option. But I am going to sell off my HDV camera and buy the HVX200.. So I would buy one as soon as it came out......

Not sure if I would buy it as I never received the Pestilence Xombie Prize they were supposed to hook up with. :embarasse  :undecided

What was the Pestilence Xombie Prize, John?

Take heart! I got so buried that it took me until December to get the Overland Films prize package out to our winner!

I'm sure the Serious package will arrive shortly!

For those who don't know what DV Rack is, head on over to www.serious-magic.com

A DVCPRO-HD version should give us full-screen real-time full-resolution pixel-accurate monitoring, waveform, vectorscope, quality assurance, and disk recording capabilities, all in a $295 application. Personally I think it's a no-brainer and an absolute must-have, but I want to see what others think.

I'll add it to my list of must have stuff if they come out with it for the HVX.

Do you guys remember when a few years ago AVID announced they were not supporting Mac anymore. Then 3 days later the biggest BackPadde in video history making up all kinds of BS to cover the 4 thousand Mac Seats they already sold.

I wish FCP did do real-time scopes ... even on ingest. They don't even do realtime Timecode readout. Hmmmm .... Dell sound good right now ... Oh, where's that soap !!!

Serious lame is a better name for their company.

yeah john.. its really wierd, they commited to sponsoring a buncha fests and they wont return me or barry s emails.. surprises the hell out of me. You should try and get a hold of Mark over there and see whats going on.

But anyways, looks like this thread turned into a mac request more than a hvx support poll.. they should look at this and think about doing the port.
