With the C200 being kind of a Franken-Cam that for now seems to offer a lot considering it being low in the CXXX number, who thinks Canon's "Next Big Thing" will be a FF cinema camera?
(I somehow consider a larger then 4K sensor a given...)

A "3rd Gen" C500 MKII could have a new FF sensor in it along with x3 Digic DV 6s.

It's probably the next big one in the list that hasn't been updated.

And C700 is considered "2nd Gen" so it should outshine it.

But... probably nah.

I just interviewed the post supervisor from Guardians of the Galaxy II, which was shot on the RED Weapon VV. FF is a very specific application, mainly anamorphic. I would only see Canon doing this if the market as a whole starts to demand it. They already have anamorphic implementation on the C700 but it apears that the C700 is not yet gaining a foothold. Camera buyers behave like Lemmings, they only buy what their colleagues buy, there are very few camera rebels (I interviewed John Toll, ASC, he used twin Sony F65s in 3D for Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, that was rebellious), and none of the cool kids have yet put the C700 to work on a ground breaking episodic or feature so none of the other cool kids will order it/rent it because they will only shoot with what is being used on high profile projects. To me, FF would be aimed at high end production, Canon's high end production camera is and will continue to be the C700 so this isn't happening.

Full frame has been used to some extent by Canon with the 1D C, which only has like a mild 1.3 crop on a full frame sensor. But for all other cinema cameras from Canon, Super 35 is just too much of a standard do ignore. Think of the lenses that are all made for Super 35. And how about missing support for the lightweight quality EF-S lenses? Rather not. And as fas as I know, Canons years old 8K prototype is also Super 35. But maybe we will see a 1D C Mark II with a custom made 35.2 Megapixel 8K full frame sansor.

Full frame is a photographer thing. It should be medium format, like the Alexa 65. Nothing really competes with the Alexa 65 right now.

I feel like the C700 isn't getting traction because the image quality isn't good enough. Both the F65 and Arri have better image quality.

Yea, I agree...and it's honestly just as simple as that. And that applies to other cameras too.

The image quality and overall Canon look is just not good enough for Hollywood blockbusters. (I know Canon cameras have been used before.)

You can have all of the functionality and features and ergonomics in the world, but if the look isn't there, it just won't work.

(It's more than good enough for me and thousands of others.)

How do you come to this conclusion? The Alexa 65 has a way bigger three-sensors-laid-next-to-each-other area and the F65 downsamples from a 6K resolution sensor?

Which conclusion? The the image quality isn't as good? By looking at the footage. Colors and highlight roll-off is not as good. And the image just doesn't look that great generally speaking.

Alexa 65 has higher resolution too at 6.5k. The F65 I'm pretty sure down-samples from 8K, not 6K. The C700 to me is just a souped up C300 Mark II; the look is the same, the image isn't as nice as Arri or the F65.

As NorBro said, the C700 has some nice features lacking in other cameras, but without the image quality being the same level of quality, it's a tough sell to the high end market which can often live without features like good low light, and typically don't need AF.

Plus, Canon's big hit of the era is DPAF. So, if Canon does come out with an FF camera, it isn't likely to be an ultra high end Alexa65 competitor but something in the "C400" class.

Which is fine. High, if not the top, quality for a reasonable price is nothing to sneeze at.

The C700 was just too late to market. Maybe IF it had been the C300 mark II...

And for what it's worth, a few years ago at NAB, NHK was using the F65 in their 8K booth.
