I find this poll to be particularly eye opening. I am really surprised at the ratio of FCP to other NLE users. Earlier in his posts filmmaker1977 has postulated that the majority of people would be PC based using a variety of NLEs, in his case, whatever was the cheapest. I have to admit that I, too, thought that the mix of users would reflect the general mix of computer users...in other words, a larger percent of PC users.
yup, blaine, it's true.. i'd say so..

it seems the conservative party outcome: the polls are always saying less than what the reality means and the votes will be..

the dreams are always a different scenario than the cruel reality is..

aside is not meant to be a statement of the pros and cons of fcp.. being mac.. fancy.. hype.. marketing.. and what the red manufacturer is using to.. v.g. that webpage nowadays down.. apart the cross-plataform statement on what the red workflow and editing concept will be..

Our father in Mac Heaven.

FCP for me baby. :Drogar-Dum(DBG):
Let's all get down and pray to the MAC god that FCP 6 is blue sky hi.
I'm talking 4k all the way, redcode native! Yeee haaa!! :Drogar-Evil(DBG):
Pass the Octapussy and praise Steve J. the Messiah.

ps... and bless us with a 4k 50" while while you're at it oh Lord Jobs.

I was using Avid before FCP was out, now FCP is a sort of accepted as a standard from beginners on up, mostly because it fits well with all the other apps around it.
Avid is the Rolls Royce for cinema, but the working joe's out there (like me) I think are going to get their new bomber Intel Mac's w FCP (5+) for RED.

hey Jarred, you should have made the blue bar in the poll be Avid and the red FCP, then it would look like the last election!

I think the only system to handle 4k with Primere was when it was used with the Video Explorer card setup for the mac. It would edit 4k RGB 444 and bundled with the Digital Magic card it would handle 2k previews real time on short projects. it was about 60K for the setup. A long time ago!

i'm sorry guys but keep dreaming or hoping.. whatever.. during 2008 or.. well, the premiere/cineform revenge at 4k.. eheheh.. :)

 i'd like too.. but speaking seriously, mr. David Newman has something to show.. 4k online editing.. and working.. maybe mac i dunno but pc based surely and if red won't be at 4k editing, i'll be there of course.. me likes cineform..

I wonder what the userbase of the Red camera will be finishing in, Either Avid or Final Cut.. what do you guys think?

Of course, Final Cut isn't capable (yet) of handling 4k in and out, but via Redcine and conform it will be possible.
I am shure FCP will do the job, RED and APPLE startet both in a garage, APPLE ended up in a huge company so will do RED.

Avid can and has been able too for quite some time. It by far is the most powerful editor out there and the most expensive.

I wouldn't say that. Xpress Pro with a Mojo can be had for less than the price of Final Cut Pro. And the upgrade prices can't even be compared: Avid charges $49 for a full 1.x version upgrade. So the cost of ownership for a FCP machine will quickly add up after one upgrade cycle.

And with Media Composer Software edition weighing in at only $4500 it's not exactly a huge economic stretch.

Of course neither of those are 4k either, and would require the user to rent a DS Nitris for at least a few hours to render, but at least ther *is* a path to quickly conform your project.

So I would argue that Avid is both the most powerful and the most affordable. Especially if you save a few $$ not buying a shiny silver box with a $400 Apple emblem.

Cineform

Cineform

RED ONE 4K -> REDCODE RAW -> REDCINE -> Cineform 4K -> Adobe Production Bundle == 4K 10bit online editing on a desktop machine today.

This is what I will be using.

David Newman on http://cineform.blogspot.com/
Dual Quad core demo for HP/Intel.
I got to appear on camera for a promo spot we did for HP regarding a new Intel dual-proc quad core system (8 real CPUs.) On this class of system we demonstrated real time editing of 4k Dalsa Origin footage. You can catch the spot from the CineForm web pages, and somewhere on the HP site. Although this didn't take too much of my time, it marks a milestone for CineForm moving forward into some new areas

David, btw, the download links for the demo clip expired.
