Pmw F5 & F55

I think the impossibly low F55 price listed there indicates that that vendor just made up prices to get people interested, look for them to adjust when actual pricing is announced...
Before the BM camera everyone thought a camera like that was impossible too, and before the DSLR craze hit, everyone knew that cine digital cost no less than 100k to start. Also, the Earth was flat at one point in history.

I think in many respects the pricing is a game of chicken with Red/Canon/Arri. If Sony is in a position to do volume sales, this pricing may very well be profitable, and regardless, it has the potential to "starve" the competition. Lets say the F55 is $25k base kit. RED will have to slash prices on the EPIC. And that's going to hit their bottom line hard.

And it will devastate the Alexa. And who's going to buy a C500?

If it was a physical rotating mirror like Alexa studio, F65 or Aaton delta, then yeah, but it's electronic meaning that the sensor itself reads out the data at once like on CCD cameras. I don't want to know how they pulled that off.

From the little reading I've done on global shutter CMOS, they've been able to do it for a while now - the problem has been that it limits high-speed framerates and dynamic range (compared to rolling shutter readout), so it's taken a backseat to other performance aspects of the sensors - I guess they've finally broken through the barrier for 'good enough' when it comes to DR/High-speed framerates/image quality trade-offs!

No Doubt! Same with the Solid camera VF set up! Just recently got some nice Titanium/Shape handles...those will work too!
Look on the Sony site, the rotating images, The one with the F5 with Dp and AC (it's sitting on a ET base!)

we already have an integrated top plate with our handle/15mm iris rod clamp and front to back EVF support for this camera. We have been working on it for a few weeks now. It will be an easy camera to go from doc style to cine style in minutes.

The AXS-R5 recorder is supposed to cost over 15000 Euro ... if you add body and recorder viewfinder and media together ... around 40.000 Euro ... makes more sense then at first sight. F65 now cost around 55.000 !

120fps at 4k a limit? Hmm I guess I'll bite.

FANTASTIC

This is going to sound ridiculous, but one of the reasons I didn't get your EVF bracket and an Alphatron for my F3 was because I suspected this was all coming.

Good AKS didn't show up for the F3 until way too late, I'd like to get started on this new one asap. After going from an R1 to the F3, it's funny how the F3 taught me all about how badly the tack ons were to work with.

Here's hoping I can hang onto the F5 for longer than the F3 (22 months)?

If nothing else, these cameras make me really want to get the Element Technical replacement top plate for my F3, to clean up all that mess up top.

Neither of those prices make sense. F3 is still listed as the low end part of their cinealta lineup, so F5 has to be significantly more or F3 suddenly becomes worthless.

Same as F35 was 164k ,but F65 came out 83K.....Time pass!

XLR module still to be seen.

Dont trust any pricing until you hear it from Sony. I honestly dont know pricing on or off record. And if they havent told me and my ilk, they have nothing to announce. It is a game of who blinks first on price. Red showed its hand partially and we will see tomorrow what the number might be. They havent told me either. Canon already did no interest financing on c300 with 1k discount. Its like the old gasoline price wars

Nice work, Carlos! Can't wait. Pics! when you get a chance.

I also heard that the pricing was due to be announced this morning but was held back because of the Red Epic price drop.
Said that in the other thread, that I don't know if that's the way they're playing it or not, but it sure would make sense. Red's already committed to announcing pricing tomorrow, and my assumption was that Red was planning on announcing their pricing as a reaction to the Sony offerings. So Sony, if they want to play hardball, should just not release their pricing at all yet, and make Red go first... I don't know if that's how they'll play it or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I wish Sony wasn't Sony, and they had RAW onboard. Otherwise these cameras look nice.

Physically, it is as good as onboard, once th raw recorder is attached.

I think it is a perfect solution. Securely attached 4K raw recorder, for those that need it, but a base unit for those that want to build their kit slowly or want to rent the raw box, when needed.
