Pmw F5 & F55

Looks like they're reserving a few of the choice features for just the F55:
*Global Electronic Shutter
*Internal 4K recording to SxS (XAVC 4K QFHD)
*240fps internal at 2K, instead of 120fps on the F5

Additionally - and this may just be an oversight - but the F5 page doesn't specifically list outputs for 4k at up to 60p. I don't know if the Sony R5 recorder has a proprietary connection. The F5 page just lists having 4 HD-SDI ports.

This has really got to bite for RED. Waiting for prices, but clearly they're aiming at RED and Alexa. And the F55 in specific has some things that RED and Alexa don't - global shutter for one.

Wait for clarification, though, because F5 was also supposed to be internal 4K. Might just be the 55.

Either way, it's pretty killer, and I told you it was pretty T_T

Edit: it's also possible that I misunderstood the F5 4K for 2K internal, and 4K out. That's likely what happened.

I've been reading the PDFs, it appears that the 5 does XAVCHD 4K @100mbits, and the 5 does it at 300.

I could be wrong though, there is an AWFUL lot to take in at once. Yowzers.

Yeah it's a lot of info. There are still some tids and bits that I hope they leave for the showcase.

xD I bet some people love the internal ND wheel yeah?

Global shutter, 10bit INternal, 4K internal or output RAW, slow-mo. It seems like this is the ideal camera for the next few years. Anyone see anything overly negative so far?

I need to know about purchase dates too as a project coming up would be a perfect fit for this. I hate to take out a loan on a camera and thought I never would, but this might be worth it finally.

I'd missed the ND wheel. That's another leg up on EPIC.

Also, great to see them sticking with the FZ mount. That means all our adapters for the Sony F3 will work on these new cameras. Also, the servo lens will be supported. As a servo lens owner, this is a big deal to me - it means that lens is likely to retain value.

I really liked how they combined the PL and FZ mount, and supposedly the FZ can go to any other mount (Nikon, Canon, etc).

It's worth noting that since the F5 and F55 have the same form factor and accessories, one could be a Sony F5 owner/op, and rent a F55 "brain" when a specific shoot calls for 240fps, global shutter, or the ultrawide gamut.

Sounds familiar (Scarlet/Epic) :)

Sony's learning. Modular has it's benefits. But RED has always pushed RAW, and never offered a high quality internal compressed codec. This is something Sony is winning in spades with this new offering. I have plenty of clients who need fast turn around material, and this camera would answer that need.
