Pmw F5 & F55

Philip Bloom says:

F55 (body only) around $50K
F5 (body only) around $18K

List Prices
Hmm... if that's true, it's still pretty darn good for a camera (F55) that has a global shutter, considering most other options are in the $120~150k range. In fact, if the F55 has the same sensor block as the F65, it's already worth it.

Don't get too excited yet.
I know of companies way more guilty of undelivered promises than Sony. In fact, if Sony can be blamed for anything, it's bringing stuff to market too quickly.

Global shutter, 10bit INternal, 4K internal or output RAW, slow-mo. It seems like this is the ideal camera for the next few years. Anyone see anything overly negative so far?

I need to know about purchase dates too as a project coming up would be a perfect fit for this. I hate to take out a loan on a camera and thought I never would, but this might be worth it finally.

Nothing negative here, except which one to buy !!! The F5 or F55 !!!

And if the pricing is F5 = 20k $ + Recorder 19k $ it´s about the price of an epic before its price is reduced. So if epic becomes 10k cheaper it´s still a very good investment.

The 2k $ Update for the FS700 to take the 19k $ recorder is a bad joke. Noone would ever do that!

I wouldn't say never. What about if you buy an F5/F55 with the recorder as your A cam, now you can get a $10,000 Fs700 w/firmware as a B cam? I haven't heard the price of the recorder yet but I'm beginning to doubt it'll be $19K. I'm thinking it'll be about half that. Hopefully we'll know more today.

While speaking of Sony, cameras and gear-lust, let's remember our friends in NYC that help us to turn excitement and opportunity into a purchase. They are experiencing total mayhem there due to hurricane Sandy. Manhatten and The Village are under FEET of water. I suspect B&H and AbelCine will be out of commission for a while. Abel is probably better off on the upper-floor levels, but B&H is likely under water!

My thoughts and hopes go out to them during this time--best wishes for a speedy/safe recovery and getting back up and running quickly.

I'm sorry, can someone explain the excitement here? A $20k body that will require a separate $20k recorder for 4K, and requires new proprietary storage cards for the higer rate fps? So arguably a $50k package? I'm just not getting it..

what kind of math is that!!

look at the rest of the features. color, bit depth, dynamic range, internal recording, frame rates, internal recording, A/B camera rental possibilities, internal recording, ...etc.

the recorder you are referring to might prove to be more for F65 and F55. and it does things no other recorder can do today.

you can look for a future solution from convergent design or any other 3rd party if you please or think the internal recording is inadequate. you can rent any recorder on need basis.

i think the problem is that you are not looking at the features, F3 images(or slightly better) with amazing internal recording. and then added external recording options when needed. and all the higher frame rates requests from the F3. you are just comparing specs to red cameras that do not produce images better or cleaner than the F3. and you are comparing 16 bit image from sony to anything else on the market today is absurd.

the F55 is another beast all together with global shutter and the ultra wide color gamut.

Exactly, in an another article, someone was guessing too around 19,000, and Andy from AbelCine chimed in an said " you guys are WAY off."

B&H should be just fine - they're up on a hill. Abel's entry floor may be damp, but they should be alright - relatively speaking.

No prices announced so all is speculation. The recorder will not be 20k i am assured by sony. Competitve with gemini and other similar devices. I dont even want to guess.

Sparce writing since no power here probably for days and days. Using my ups units to charge iphones and ipad until they lose battery.

I will be on the chat from nj today if it happens.

F55 is a baby F65. Gloal electronic shutter and same sensor block. No target on the firmware updates for both cameras but they will be free. F5 is 2k xavc in camera. 55 is 4k xavc in camera. Both do 2k and 4k 16 bit raw to the recorder.

Thnigs are a mess here. We had no water damage but nearby rivers had storm surge and manhttan is a disaster. No power here and tons of trees and wires down

If the F5 is the rumoured $15K - C300 is officially dead. 1DC is a still-born.
Canon's cine cameras were over-priced for their feature set even before these announcements.

No need to guess, Gemini will be just under $9,300 for the unit + raw upgrade

If they're aiming for the same ballpark, things may be even better than expected.

You'd stick a kitted out F55 on front of a fast moving car? The 1DC will find it's niche. The C300 already has, although it will probably need a price drop to stay relevent.
The good ol' days when they used to stick kitted out panavisions on moving cars...

With the F5 sharing the sensor with the FS700 will it be able to keep up with the F3 sensor? F3 looks much better than the FS700 or will this be down to signal processing?
