Pmw F5 & F55

Actually it looks more like the F65 side menu.

Frank

Yes, you are correct, but I'd say F65 side menu was very Alexa inspired, as the Alexa predates the F65 for quite some time. I guess it's second generation of Alexa inspiration in design. I have not had any real play time with F65 yet, as it's still a very rare camera in the wild... so I still associate the six button around the info screen as Alexa. Either way, it should beat the hell out of past Sony menu systems!!!!

The only thing that I'm missing are XLR inputs - can't believe you need a separate module for that.

It's not clear, but I think the XLR module plugs in where the time code module goes. Maybe can only have one or the other plugged in?

Does anybody see a LANC port, or some way to operate remotely?

Also, they say you can get auto iris and focus and image stabilization with the Sony 18-252 lens, but I don't see a zoom rocker, so maybe you have to do manual zoom.

Does look pretty good. On the other hand, the F5 looks rather similar to a 4 year old Red One. Slightly improved, but not even in all areas.

Instead of needing separate modules to record a quick-turnaround-codec, one needs a recorder to record RAW. And audio. Can't believe either there is no audio in. There are so many potential jobs for camera's like this where one just wants to plug in an XLR. Nice way of up-selling...

Those of you already "complaining" about the XLR module - vs. talking about the numerous ways this camera is a MAJOR game changer - IMHO need a serious reality check.

I mean c'mon, REALLY. They've packed SO much into both of these cameras in their raw, base configurations....you're gonna complain about THAT? Like Sony is doing this on purpose to UPSELL???

Crazy.

Have any pictures been released from these cameras yet? The specs look fantastic, but I want to see before I believe.

To bad about the XLR inputs. No matter how great a camera becomes there's always something missing :) I really dig the modularity but the basics should be incorporate in the body. Not another Canon XLR-add-on again...

These cameras do look superb, the lenses look great too, but how is it game changing? Sincere question.

Global shutter. Even though the Red gets a very fast readout, flash photography still gets half frames, and there is a very subtle motion property with rolling shutter.

Other than that, Red is a great alternative, and likely could be a better camera. It's just good to see someone other than Arri and Red get it right. We'll see if the specs perform in real life. I also like Sony sensors.

We'll see what the lenses are like, but so far they look far and beyond better than the first Sony PL's for the F3 that were absolute awful mechanically. This new set looks fantastic. They seem a little big and time will tell how they are optically in terms of CA, color matching and other difficult properties, but so far, it seems someone was listening and I really appreciate that. Maybe they read one too many rants here on DVXuser and RedUser where I tore those lenses to bits. :)

The F65 is a great camera with little fanfare, let's hope the F55 is in the same realm and catches on.

Since these cameras are beyond my limits, i'm just staring and drooling at them :) Also about the 8k120fps firmware update for F65; wish the ex1/pmw200 users had a similar one for 1080p60fps.

It would become interesting if Sony waits to announce the price on these puppies after RED has had their price drop revealed.

I hope Red go real low in order to encourage Sony to go low too...

But now RED won't announce any price reductions, they only enjoy stepping into someone else's spotlight, if they can't, they go back and hide in the dark...... right? :D

No but Red said they are ruducing prices because manufacturing costs have come down! Nothing to do with the F55. And Red "just tell the truth."

Red has always treated their customers very well, and I have been the direct benefactor of many of their friendly business practices... but let's not kid ourselves about the timing of the price drop. I think we all know what's really up. Even though they may very well still may be the better camera, they are getting competitive. All reasons aside.

The timing of this couldn't be better. Remember how they stepped on the Canon announcement? This is the same thing. Wonderfully timed price drop. :P
