Pmw F5 & F55

WOW! Speechless. Must take in...info... WOW! F5, please be $15,000. $22,000 fully loaded.
Come on, this is Sony. That sensor will eat up a black hole. Built in ND. All those recording options. Modular. Resources. Proven time and time again company. RED just lost today. Hell, people think the F3 outshines the RED in certain areas. Then you have the F55. Global shutter? It's over guys. The big boy claimed the hill. Jim at RED has no bazookas left. These are AC-130 Spectre Gunships circling them, and Canon, and Panny, and Arri. If the F55 stays under $50,000 they win.
WOW

Need some photos here in this thread too:

The F55 outputs a 4k signal up to 60 FPS to a monitor. RED can't even barley manage that. They couldn't even get playback at first. Jim at RED is drinking heavily tonight.

Come on guys...

Just for you, Luis:

Wait for clarification, though, because F5 was also supposed to be internal 4K. Might just be the 55.

Either way, it's pretty killer, and I told you it was pretty T_T

Edit: it's also possible that I misunderstood the F5 4K for 2K internal, and 4K out. That's likely what happened.

I think I found out why: it's probably because their own screenshot on the side of the F5 shows 4K internal recording. Probably they just copy-and-pasted it from the F55 brochure because otherwise, that part of the camera looks the same for both!

BTW, CVP's site says "New XAVC Codec for efficient 4K" as an F5 feature too... hey, maybe it IS on both cameras?!

EDIT: No, no, not according to their table lower down.

BTW 2000 ISO for the F5... wow. Although I'm personally leaning towards just staying camera-less and renting an F55 as needed - the ISO is 1280 which is probably a result of the global shutter plus purer color filters (because you get less bleedthrough from the wrong colors, the ISO decreases?). Pure specualtion... The only issue is that I really don't like the F65 skintones when not in daylight... but then I hate RED skintones. Anyway, must test!

Very pretty cameras indeed. I really like the camera body design. The status panel's graphic design is sharp. The buttons and overall look is unmistakable Sony. But it has a richer feel to it...less industrial video camera...less handycam...and more stylish, yet timelessly elegant. I only wish the flipup VF was less clunky. The old Betacam VFs look much better.

If you're not under the Sony shed duck and cover because the world is burning and you HAVE NO ESCAPE.

You guys are too funny.

Nice looking hardware though. I think I'm more interested in the lenses...

What do you mean it can barely manage that? There haven't been many 4k monitors available to justify 4k monitor outputs. EPIC does 5K at 96fps, 4k or 5k WS at 120fps, and will have been available for 2 years when the F55 is released in February. F55 seems to max out at 4k 60fps, or at least it will when it gets the future update that allows it a couple months after release.

I have to say I'm hugely impressed. My criteria for the new one was:

-gotta have better ergos. This might be the perfect shape. Done.

-I really need internal 10bit for S-Log. Done.

-gotta have a finder for handheld. Done. In fact 3 different ways!

Icing on the cake:

-4K

-4K well integrated, no wires.

-vastly improved menu/control. I love how the Alexa does things. Looks like Sony was not afraid to borrow, and I'm so glad they did.

I have to say this is pretty much EVERYTHING I was hoping for, short of 12bit SR codec onboard. This is so close, I am NOT about to complain. The option of scaled 16bit 2K RAW will keep me warm at night in that respect.

I'm not talking about recordable frame rate. I'm talking ON SET director viewing. AND, if anybody will make that monitor, I THINK IT WILL BE SONY! Thats what I'm talking about. The Epic Sdi and HDMI are 1080 out, period. RED will bounce back. But today they got kicked in the nuts!

I think he is referring to "DeBayer and output broadcast-ready 4K in real time" - something that Epic cannot do.

Yes, it can record it. No, it can't actually spit out a 4K signal in realtime (and yes, I agree that wouldn't have been much use given the lack of 4K monitors!)

Maybe the Meizler module will fix that - don't know!

Actually they just announced that too:
http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/assets/...nveils_new_F5_and_F55_CineAlta_4K_cameras.pdf

"The F55 can connect to Sony’s new 4K 30-inch LCD monitor, model PVM-X300, using four 3G-SDI interfaces for live monitoring at 4096x2160 up to 60p while recording XAVC 4K and playback XAVC 4K images."

and it also connects via HDMI I guess for up to 30p monitoring to the consumer 4K monitor:

"Users can connect directly to Sony’s new 84-inch BRAVIA 4K (3840x2160) LED TV for largescreen monitoring of the camera’s 4K 60P images (at resized horizontal resolution of 3860 pixels).

Ah yes, I understand. It does seem EPIC/SCARLET are capable of debayering 5k/4k in realtime since the 1080p output they provide is a full debayer downscaled to 1080p, but true they have no option to output it in 4k. Given that, I wonder if they could add 4k HDMI output relatively easily. I haven't heard a lot of demand for 4k monitoring outputs, but that may change as these new 4k monitors are released. Then again RED has 4 months to respond to Sony's announcement, since Sony's release date is about 4 months away. Sounds like RED is planning a response ASAP.

Wish they didn't hide the base pad with FF. Wonder if that is a work in progress?

I'm betting it is, since there's very few pics of it, and a piece like that wouldn't have manufacturing lead times like electronics.

I'm just stoked that it looks like my ET baseplate will work with minimal mods, or at worst only replacing the plate part of it.

Yeah, they have their module and Dragon. And a bunch of paper writing notes frantically. Global shutter. "SHUT-TER". Dragon is already in R&D. THey best find out that shutter right quick.

No Doubt! Same with the Solid camera VF set up! Just recently got some nice Titanium/Shape handles...those will work too!
Look on the Sony site, the rotating images, The one with the F5 with Dp and AC (it's sitting on a ET base!)
