Hello Again everbody.

We want your opinion.

Would this be something that many of you would like to see as an accessory for the HVX200 and other Panasonic cameras?

A 12v 4-Pin XLR DC to 7.2v DC converter box that is in the shape of a Panasonic battery. It snaps into the HVX just like a battery but has a 12v 4-Pin jack on the back. It will take the 12v in, convert it to 7.2v inside the box and then provide the 7.2v at the battery pins. Zero foot print, rugged design. Retails for $150.

Would this be useful? Please contribute in the poll. And ask any questions you like (That relate to the post):) If you love and would like to buy one, please tell us.

Best regards,

Andrew Hoffman

So essentially it is an adaptor to allow 12v power supplies to power the camera out in the field?

I think it sounds like it would be ideal for situations that call for long term recording that requires portability and mobility. I don't think that I would use it in the immediate future but I could see myself wanting it if the 12v power supplies are small enough. (I am not too familiar with what is available).

I hope it that it turns out ti be a succesful product.

I would certainly want this...

This is probably a silly idea, but would it be possible to power such a device with a string of AA Ni-MH batteries? I don't recall the amerage requirements on the HVX offhand, but assuming it is possible, it would be an interesting way to provide emergency power...

And speaking of unusual ideas, I have a portable "jump start" device that will supply 12v DC through a cigarette-outlet style connection. Being able to hook such a device to the HVX should provide quite a bit of runtime. Of course, one would have to find a way to get the power to a XLR connection...

In any case, I don't currently have any 12volt power supplies that output to a 4 pin XLR plug-- do you know of any adapters that would convert other styles of plugs to XLR?

--

Many possibilites for this. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how many of them I would risk actually attaching to my camera...

Are there any *safe* 12volt power supplies that use XLR connectors that you would recommend to use with this device?

We had in mind Anton Bauer or V-Mount packs. Battery belts, etc... It now pulls the HVX into an even more proffesional work flow.

Andrew

That would be just the thing to make the HVX even more professional. I could use my good old 12V Power Unit from the days of Beta SP and DVCPro 25.

Exellent, where do I have to sign?

Cheers Peter

Any operator that owns one of these and has an HVX for kicks would love it, and a quick search on B&H showed me several much cheaper alternatives with some good looking belts for only $100 that look like they could power you though a whole live event such as this one... does anyone know how to read the "amp hours"

Dear Spec-Comm

As an HVX user, its indeed very reassuring to see you guys developing so many great products for us HVX owners. However, I would really like you guys to develop something that the current market is lacking, and that's an expresscard adapter for P2 cards. I know another company is doing it, but how about an adapter for the PCIE or PCIX ports of powermacs or macpros?

This is something that we really need, and of course can't afford the ridiculously priced 5 card adapters from panasonic.

You wouldn't be directly competing since its only a one card reader, and it seems panasonic is not very much dedicated to the Mac market...

Regards

Sergio

How about a aux OUTPUT on the adapter too?

A Power tap may be asking for too much current, though would be handy for on-camera lights.

But what I'd really like would be a standard Hirose 12v ouput connector.

CP-3 is accepting HVX-200 batteries? So...

And, for CP-3 fitted with just one disk, the other tray could be a battery tray?
Having a box below the HVX, with plugable power feature.

After all, CP-3 fitted with one SSD disk could free even more space, and less weight.

Providing solid-state storage and power independance, that's a cool dream!

We are just seeing what kind of interest there is so far. We will let you know if this is what we decide to do.

Thanks Peter!

We have many things that we have in mind to put to market. Adapters and things of the sort will come from there. We are still focusing on the CinePorter™ 100%. So you won't see many of the things we have in mind until it's released.

Thank you so much for identifying what the market needs though. I always take those suggestions back to marketing and engineering.

Thanks Sergio,

Hello Mikko,

An AUX power tap would be handy. I would need to check with the engineers to see if the design we plan to use would be able to handle that.

Thanks!

Hello Jenny,

I'm not sure what you mean but the CinePorter™ already has a 12v 4-pin input for external power that matches what the profesionals use. This particuar product would be specificly targeted for the HVX200 and other Panasonic products that use that style of battery.

Good brainstorm though! :)

Just another reason I would buy from Spec -comm if I were in the US. Here is Andrew once again, asking us the users what we want - great!

Sounds like a great product Andrew! I'd be down for one.

When will the cineporter be shipping? That's one I'm really interested in... Hope it's soon as there might be a need to buy 5 of these things very soon.
