You're describing two products which already exist to some extent.

First, the CocoDVL - which is an existing product line at Bebob. I've been told by Bebob that they're developing / have developed this same device (with Hirose and AB Tap) for the Panasonic line. The Sony version utilizes the Sony infoLithium batteries instead of an Anton Bauer (which is the industry standard the world over).

The second, and most obvious, is the Anton Bauer mfg. QRDVX Gold Mount. This is great because it takes all of the weight off of the flimsy Panasonic battery mount - with only a feather-weight adapter attached by wire.

I've asked Cavision to mfg. adapter plates for their iris rod system to facilitate Velcro mounting of accessories like the AB or V-Mount to CGR adapter with 12v take-offs (model QRDVX). They promise a universal solution in the coming months.

We noticed similar products already available, however none of them offered zero footprint which is desired by many.

Thanks for your input. This is why I posted. :)

Sounds like a great product Andrew! I'd be down for one.

When will the cineporter be shipping? That's one I'm really interested in... Hope it's soon as there might be a need to buy 5 of these things very soon.

Check out our website. Things have changed today. Also, look through the FAQ, there is some more info in there.

Any operator that owns one of these and has an HVX for kicks would love it, and a quick search on B&H showed me several much cheaper alternatives with some good looking belts for only $100 that look like they could power you though a whole live event such as this one... does anyone know how to read the "amp hours"

Your not going to want to use a 30V battery belt for the product that we are talking about. This is a 12V input. I think Pag makes a 13V belt that should work.

Thanks,

Andrew

Due to the broken tab issue, Ive put these velcros strips on the sides of the battery area. They hold the battery in incredibly tight, and may be warranted for your product to prevent any broken tabs for early models. .. .

I like the concept. As long as your conceived device is lighter than the standard 5400mah battery, you should be in good shape. What about Tap and Hirose connectors.

Most will use this to power lcd monitors, which utilize myriad proprietary connectors and on-board lighting. If there are lots of cable options available by product brand and type at the time of purchase, I'd bet these would fly off the shelf.

Or you can have us perform the battery tab MOD. We have all of the parts in stock to do it. :)

Do you mean Anton Power Tap? Which Hirose connector are you refering to?

Thanks for the input.

Is the battery tab mod something that Panasonic is replacing free of charge? Or does it actually have to be broken? Or does it cost?? What's the deal with this? I'm using the velcro method but if I can have my camera's defect fixed before it breaks, I would likely do so.

I think Spec-Comm's latest concept is good with the zero footprint. I personally have no plans to use it but may very well in the future. It would be nice to have that option available. :)

Also, another product that I would like to see in lieu of Panasonic not supporting Native frame output via Firewire . . .

It would be great to have something that converts the component output of the HVX into a Firewire400 stream. Maybe even combining it with the audio output. The way I would use this would be to run the component video out of the HVX and into the Marshall. Then I would run component out of the Marshall and into the converter box. From the converter box, I would route the Firewire stream into DV Rack 2.0. This would allow me (and the director) to monitor the video feed in Native frame mode with all the tools DV Rack has to offer. I would also have the option to record on P2 and hard disk (via DV Rack).

Anyway, just a thought . . .

I would much rather see Panasonic update the HVX's firmware to activate Native frame streaming via Firewire. :) Can this even be done??

DC,

Panasonic is covering the Battery Tab MOD under warranty IF the tabs are broken. If they aren't broken you would have to pay.

There are a bunch of threads out there concerning the 1394 subject that you brought up. Search. :)

We would almost need a universal connector that can utilize an adapter to the proper connector. The proprietary connectors that you are talking about are really expensive. Suggestions?

Yeah, I hear you on how it'll be expensive to produce multiple options. Having a universal power outlet at 12vDC makes good sense.

At the same time, I think that if the end-user has to build cables (which might well void their warranty(s) to get from your tap to the peripherals, that might be a very discouraging proposition.

I recall back in the '90s having to merge two 120VAC circuits to power a 250VAC data projector. Scary. The manufacturer told us to go for it, but to definitely not call if our rigging went South.

We didn't end up blowing the projectors, though we did have lots of phase issues that no humbucker could resolve. That's what happens when DIY cables get built.

What solution would you recommend? We have some ideas but would like to hear it from the users what you would want.:)

Hirose HR10(G)4 would be the logical place to start. They're economical for you and universal to many cameras. They're small at 7mm casing and they lock positively in their receptacles.

I don't know if Hirose manufactures a 90° plug or not, but it would beat all to have the Twist-D-Tap and two Hirose 4-pin HR10s. Both have the benefit of a much smaller footprint than the proposed XLR-sized receptacle.

I'll have to think on the question of adapting the disparate peripherals - obviously, there is no easy answer here aside from bespoke, purpose-built cables from your device to the accessory. The biggest danger at 12 or 15VAC is having user-built cables wrapped in electrical tape - which would arguably be more susceptible to loosen, otherwise degrade and fail / short.

It is desirable to manufacture cables from connector to connector without crimps or joinery of any type.

I want to say thank you for all of the votes and suggestions. Keep voteing and we'll see what happens.

I`m definitely for version with build-in Anton Bauer Power Tap connector or another with one 4-pin 12V in and one out (on the side) connectors for additional accessories (light, external monitor,...)

Thanks,

Henry.

I own this product (I think it was about $170 at B&H). It allows me to run the camera using an Anton Bauer battery in a pouch on my belt. It has a very small footprint. I'm curious what would be different about your product outside of it being able to take other 12V power sources through a 4 pin connector, like a belt or a different power supply from the one that comes with the camera? I actually think the footprint on your product would be bigger than that on the Anton Bauer product in that the power connector on the AB is the same size as the power supply adapter supplied with the camera.

Just wondering what the advantages would be in your product?

I would really like you guys to develop something that the current market is lacking, and that's an expresscard adapter for P2 cards.

I'm with SPZ on this one. It's a product that is dearly needed for so many Mac users. You could clean up!!
