Pics from the set

Snapped this photo with my iPhone last week on "set," which in this case was a state park on the Central California Coast. My friend Eric and I were shooting aerial (r/c heli) shots on the 5DII for a feature film. That's all I can tell you for now, but I'll try to post more BTS shots later.

You suck.

Nice!

Older stuff here, but In this shoot I had my SD MixPre modified so I could attach it to my camera, which was also modified for cleaner sound.

Here's the ad from the bathroom shoot. I did the jingle as well! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSnzKFglkQM

I'm embarrassed by my gear that has all been replaced with nice mics and a pair of EX1 cameras. I need to get some current shots! Too often I'm doing one man band style, and too busy for photo ops...

My mom's side of the family live in Eureka so I've spent many a car ride driving up there. How's the work up in Humbolt county?

There is not a lot, but I get a lot because there aren't too many video guys around who can get decent audio. Right now I do all the local ads for ABC, and some for Fox & SuddenLink. I also do everything that comes through a marketing agency I work for called Precision Intermedia. Also there are some indi films being made here. I am doing post audio on those - cleaning up the mess the director allowed to happen with the audio, adding special effects, mixing the whole thing with music etc. Bt I seem to be getting enough video business through word of mouth at the moment. I just did a, gasp - wedding. Not my cup of tea, but there is nobody doing that here, so there's as much of that as I want. http://www.youtube.com/ChadWork1

It's good to be a medium fish in a minuscule pond!

Glad to hear there's enough work to keep you busy up there. If I'm in town again, I'll see if you need a boom op :)

Awesome Pete! The next 2 months are the most beautiful time of the year around these parts. We tend to have less fog, so it almost feels like summer for a while.

haha, the ostrich did get closer to inspect the blimp but my phone wasn't the quickest at snapping the pic and they were kinda scared of it. the giraffes would sniff it and rub their noses on it. so if you need some nat sound of giraffes sniffin, i gotcha covered!

We were recording skating sounds for an ad. It's hard to get quiet time on ice in California. They let us buy some time between 4 and 5 AM! We got our hockey player to put on a pack and do some close up skate sounds.

Don't know what I'm doing here..... Probably something I didn't need to do... or just to tease the actress... I do tease actors, actresses, directors, DOP, production people etc... It's more fun when there's a good mood on a set rather then having those "seriously" people... I find....

As you see... you don't always have to stand BEHIND a camera.... As long as you're out of frame. In some situations it's like I'm standing in front of the camera, but because it's close up I'm "framed out". It's sometimes "scary" for me also though. But if it's the best position for me.... (because of shadows for example or to have the sound as good as possible).

I'm pointing at the invisble guy....

Here's one of the back-2-back WWII feature film (2 WWII features) being shot at location.
It may look like I'm really far back with the microphone, but pleasantly surprised at the results.

...and here's the small rig for our small day.

Thank you to Hans Beerbaum (prop master) and Michael Umansky (director) for set pics.

Lesson:
Thinking lavs would work during the actual tank manuever for dialogue coverage...NO! The boom saved the day.
The Tx antenna may come loose if screw isn't tight, the part where the coax is connected to the female-threaded piece. Hard to explain, but it looks like the coax just came off loose while the other half is still pieced toether with the SMA antenna slot.

I havent participated for a lil bit in here so here is a picture I just
snapped about an hour and a half ago for the martini shot of the day.
(actually the 2nd martini of the day because I had a nice double dip today :D )

Steady cam shot of talent walking along the edge of this roof.
Nuts! The wind was REALLY strong and that ledge only came up to about his knees.

In fact the wind was so strong I gave up on the lav's after 2 takes and went strictly boom
which was like a sail in the wind. Luckily on the really strong wind stuff the steady cam frame was blown as well so I didnt have to take blame :D

Anyway, I took this pic because I thought the light was pretty.
