Physical cable attachment

I recently completed a HVX job using Firestore drives (my first with this set-up). The drives worked well enough, but the cable connection was very dodgy. We had to tape/tether the cables to the camera to prevent them from unplugging. When they did in testing, all data was lost.

I hope there is a plan to produce a cable with a physical connection to the camera and the RED drive. Either a Cam-lock or sprung clip?

I second the motion. Firewire was never meant to be used in a mobile manner. The Red camera should have cable connectors for the Red-Drive that lock into place, like XLR cables do.

Drive interconection.

Drive interconection.

We agree.

Cable tie FireWire to Beldon 8281 for connection security.

Or whatever locking system you can find on a camera.

I think RED will suprise us with thier solution, pure speculation.

Maybe some sort of fibre interface with a long, stable, optical cable?

But given what they've done so far, I'm sure it gonna be kewl!

BTW, The bandwidth for the lowest data rate, 18mps, is pretty low, yes it is but who's gonna use Red to shoot that low?

Even then, normal VTO on set using wireless is pretty shoddy at the best of times. Too much interference from electronics, laptops, walkie talkies, general electronic radiation.

4k for wireless, I don't think so. Not yet, maybe once WI-MAX becomes a real standard.

Still, wireless would be uber kewl. Ahh, the stuff of dreams.
