PHOTOfunStudio Replacement

Similar problems anyone?

Similar problems anyone?

Has anyone Panasonic GH2 user popped into an error like this when importing video files:

"Unexpected video file 00140 not represented in playlist found. Date/time may be

incorrect."

This 00140.MTS file is copied with name:

20110605_112018_UNK.m2ts

to my my hard disk.

Could this problem have something to do with using non-Panasonic battery? (I'm using latest 1.0.15 version of GH1 Importer.) By the way zip file on this thread's first page could be named with the version number shown in the zip name...

After upgrading to the newest version I get this message when trying to import video files (photos import without a problem):

Import failed
System.IndexOutOfRangeException:Index was outside the bounds of the array.
at GH1Importer.MainForm.ProcessPlayList()
at GH1Importer.MainForm.ImportFiles(Object state)

Would appreciate advice.
Previous versions worked fine

This probably normally shows up when the camera has write issues or some other hack-related issue occurs. I just got back from a trip and ran into this problem because I had video files that were 4Gb long and apparently that is an issue. When this happens, the Playlist file gets out of sync with the video/CPI files and the importer can't locate the additional meta-data properly. The message above is to warn you that this problem was detected.

I just ran into this problem myself and I'm working on a fix.

Thanks, Phil. What's suprising is that it doesn't happen all the time. I've been using three different cards (all Patriot LX, 2x 16GB & 32GB) and two different readers). Settings on GH13 were the same.
It only appears when there is a problem with the writing on the card. This may be caused by write errors or simply some other logic problem that is caused by or exasperated by the hack. I've only seen problems when I got the "write error" message or when I exceeded the 4GB file size limit. Both of these should never occur normally, but can with a hack installed.

Just a quick update -- I had to reload my PC from scratch this week due to a Windows OS problem. This has put me way behind schedule and I won't get a fix for this for at least a couple more days. Sorry for the delay!

Hi Phil,

Well I'm using Panasonic GH2 -camera, with the official firmware that came with it. (I believe there still doesn't exist a hack for GH2.) I bought a non-Panasonic replacement battery for my GH2, which I believe might be the culprit for my problems.

When using the non-Panasonic battery during video shooting, my camera just shuts down WITHOUT ANY indication that battery power is reaching the bottom limit. Just last weekend I was recording a film when camera suddenly stopped. After removing the non-Panasonic battery and installing the official Panasonic battery the short clip I was filming had totally disappeared. I couldn't find any trait of it in Play-mode of GH2. I wouldn't be surprised if playlist file gets out of sync with the video/CPI files.

I think I must stay using only official Panasonic GH2 batteries. Anyone found them at reasonable price anywhere?

(By the way I have tested splitting long video clips into smaller clips using GH2 menu (Playback --> Video Divide). This way I can easily delete parts from lengthy clips, which I won't be using. Apparently new *.mts files created during divide operation get DATE and DATE MODIFIED time according to time, when divide operation is done in camera. However when these divided *.mts files are imported using GH1 Importer, naming uses the time of original video file shooting time. I think this okay.)

Hi,

Just to let you know:

After my latest trip I used GH1 Importer to get videos and photos from my GH2's SDHC cards into my hard disk. During this journey I used mainly the original Panasonic battery. I used the third party battery only to shoot some still pictures after my Panasonic battery had run out of energy. The third party battery ran never out of energy so my camera went never "black" during recording - I think.

During my journey I deleted some unsuccessful video clips from memory cards. I also splitted some clips into two to remove unnecessary portions of the clips. After splitting I deleted the unwanted portions.

During import process GH1 Importer run into many unexpected video files. The dates (=names of the video files) were wrong after import in many files.

During import process GH1 Importer also reported many duplicate files with same file name (after renaming files according to date).

Possible import fixes

Possible import fixes

I've been working on resolving the various import problems that people have been experiencing and I think I may have a version that will work correctly. Since I don't have a GH2, I can only test with the samples that I've received from others. This version works will all the test cases I have and can produce.

Before I publish this to the main page, can I get a couple of people to test it? I'm especially looking for someone that has a GH2 and can run though a couple of the problem scenarios. Others are welcome to test, but please provide me with detailed information if you run into problems. If possible, it would be great if people can send me the playlist files (PLAYLIST/*.MPL) that are causing problems so I can better diagnose the issues.

If this all works out for the testers, I'll publish it to the base note for this thread.

Thanks,
Phil

See followup message for updated release.

Just some additional information about my AVCHD-struggle :)

After using GH1 Importer I had to manually rename almost every (*.m2ts and *.cpi) file imported. It seemed that mostly my files were "systematically" out of sync. I think most of the files would have gotten the right names in the first place, if their date and time code in their names would have been copied from "date created" field of the original *.mts files on the SDHC card.

Would it be easy to add an option in GH1 Importer software to use "DATE CREATED" data instead of playlist data (if this is used at the moment)? This could save lot of time when playlist gets out of sync for some reason.

**I haven't tested Phil's latest version of GH1 Importer as I was typing this post at the same time as Phil his post above.**

Version 1.0.16: View attachment 37399

I got this kind of error message when trying to install 1.0.16. I had no problems with 1.0.15 version.

With Polarbeer's help, I've made some significant changes to the importer which should resolve most (if not all) of the import errors that people have reported. Here's a detailed list of the changes I made:
  1. Rewrote the playlist parsing code to more accurately handle the data stored there. I now support situations where more than one stream file (.MTS) is associated with a playlist. For example, if the stream file is longer than 4 Gb, the camera will split it into two (or more) stream files. Now, when this is imported, the files will be combined into a single stream file.
  2. Modified the generated file name to include the source stream number(s). For example, if two input streams are combined into one because of the 4 Gb file limitation, the output file name will be something like 20110723_162352_FHD.00000-00001.m2ts. In this example, input files 00000.MTS and 00001.MTS were combined into this one output stream. This also resolves naming conflicts when two source stream files have the same time stamp -- this can occur on a GH2 when you split a clip.
Give this version and try and please report any issues you have with it. I'll do my best to resolve them as quickly as I can.

Regards,
Phil

Just to be accurate as I noticed one thing.

I downloaded the latest version from the first page of this thread. When I run the program and press "About" button it tells me that I'm running version 1.0.16.22670.

When I go to Windows' Control Panel (Win 7 64 bit Home Premium) and choose "Uninstall a Program" the list of installed programs tells me that I'm running version 1.0.16.5.

Which one is correct?

The version number could be put into zip's name like "GH1 Importer 1.0.16.XXXX.zip" on the first page to make things super clear for downloaders and uppgraders.

I'll correct this when I publish the next release.

GH1 File Importer with the latest v1.1 GH2 firmware?

GH1 File Importer with the latest v1.1 GH2 firmware?

Howdie again!

I just noticed that Panasonic has released a firmware update for their GH2 (apparently 1.1). Firmware has been out for a couple of months now and one of the changes is:

"New video mode which is suitable for editing video recorded at high bit rate (24Mbps)"

Can anyone, who has updated their GH2 firmware into v1.1, tell me, how the latest GH1 File Importer (1.0.16.22670) has worked with updated camera firmware? GH1 File Importer has worked well for me with the original firmware of GH2 camera. I don't want to update, unless I can be sure, that GH1 File Importer works also for the latest firmware.

I have been really pleased with the video quality of GH2 already, but would like to update, if everything works like with the older camera firmware.

I have checked the option "Append AVCHD format to file name", which means that text "FSH" is added into file names of MTS and CPI files. What text is added, if you have latest v1.1 firmware installed and use the new 24Mbps mode?

Thanks for your help!

Anyone who can answer my question above?

Okay, I got message from Phil Seastrand that GH1 File Importer takes "Append AVCHD format to file name" info directly from the files on SDHC card of GH1/GH2 cameras. So GH1 File Importer shouldn't need update despite the firmware of GH2 was updated.

Now I have tested this with my GH2 shortly after installing v.1.1 firmware and everything seems to work alright, when importing videos and images using GH1 File Importer. New high bitrate mode is marked with lettters "HBR", if you have chosen to append AVCHD format to file name.
