photofunstudio and AVCHD files

Hi,
Has anyone ever had any luck with the photofunstudio that comes with the camera? I mean to see AVCHD files, not to mention cutting and converting them , as it promised in the manual and the software description.
I searched a lot and all I could find was people complaining that the program that comes with the camera doesn't even see GH1 video files.
But the GH1 manual book clearly says to use Photofunstudio to view, transfer to PC, and edit AVCHD lite files. So does the program manual.
Looks very strange to me. Am I missing something? I can't make it work no matter what.:Drogar-Angry(DBG):
btw, I'm running Vista 64, i7 6gb desktop.

Thanks.

i never thought of it as a program to actually edit with. regardless of what a manual says.

do you have an NLE?

Is your problem just trying to ingest the files and see that what's on our SDHC card exists?

Yes, I have Sony Vegas, PE7,and Corel Video Studio 12 and I have no problem with them.
I just thought it would be convenient to use the supplied program as a viewer. I just want to see what is in the file and to trim it if needed before going to the real NLE.
And, also, this is just the matter of principles. I love my GH1 but if I pay $1.5K for the product, I expect everything that comes with it to work as promised.

i understand...well, since we both use vegas, here's what i do....

my pc is on.
i plug in my cam with the supplied USB cable. Turn on camera.
window pops up asking what program i wanna use to view files.
i choose PhotoFunHD.
PhotoFun opens, and i select the folder with the files i want to work with.
All files are checked, and i click ok...files import to my harddrive.

do you get that far?

now, i have never tried to play the video files in PFHD....once i see the new folder, i exit out of it and open Vegas and Import Media
...or i do the Cineform thing for 1080, but i Import Media just the same in Vegas ...

well, in other words, i use PhotoFun to ingest/save whats on my camera's memory card....i never wanted to use it for anything else. maybe i'm not such a big help after all LOL

I never used PhotoFun before. Didn't even download it. Today i wanted to give it a try and it didn't work. Then I found out that I'm not the only one.
My original question was if anyone had it actually working as intended.
I know how to turn the pc on, how to insert the card in the reader and the reader in the pc and so on...

Thanks anyways.

i wasn't trying to insult your intelligence, but while you have Vegas, PE7, and CVS12, why are you concerned with the "advertised" capabilities of photoFunHD? did you buy a $1.5K program, or a $1.5K camera that came with a free program? The programs you have are far superior for handling your footage in whatever aspect you expect to handle them....PhotoFun just might suck, but your camera doesnt.

I wasn't going to edit and finish footage with PhotoFun in no way. I don't think it's even possible even if I wanted to.I'm very happy with Vegas. I'm just looking for a good thumbnail viewer without downloading all that codec packs. When I open a STREAM folder I want to see what those files are about and quick-play them if needed.
And I would disagree about $1.5k camera or $1.5k program thing. If you buy a good car with a "free" GPS and later find out that this GPS shows only freeways, but not local streets and it doesn't see left turns, only rights, would't you be p#ssed? Or it's like: Nah, not a big deal, the car is $60K and the good GPS is $150-200 everywhere in the stores..
I'm not asking for free full-functioned NLE, but such a company as Panasonic could have included a simple AVCHD viewer that actually works. IMHO.

I think I will contact Panasonic and ask them about it. Will post the results (if any).

Sorry for the long post and if there were any grammar flaws. English isn't my first language.

maybe...or certainly, i should say, there may be a problem with your PhotoFunHD software then, because i use it for the same reasons that you are describing, and it works flawlessly.

try to uninstall/reinstall first before you contacy Panasonic, cuz it can be a few minutes before you get a reply. Best of luck.

English is my second language as well. I was born here, and very well educated. I just can't spell or type anything without have to respell/type things over and over again.

You can only use PhotoFunStudioHD to edit the AVCHD clips if you also used that program to import the clips from your camera to your computer. When PhotoFun imports a clip from the camera, it will create four files for each of your clips. It needs all four files before it can view, edit, or export the clip. So if you are using Windows to import your MTS files from your camera to your computer, you will not be able to use PhotoFun to do anything with those clips.

Oh, now it is clear! I tried this and it actually worked !
Thanks a lot!

My NTSC GH1 has issues in PAL land.

My NTSC GH1 files cannot be recognised by Photofun Studio - I'm in Australia. Do you know if there is a workaround this? I would still like to be able to use photofun studio to edit and join the numerous .mts files. The software had come together with the camera - it should work with the files produced by the camera. But it's telling me that i'm now in the wrong country to be using the software!

Just tried my Photofun Studio software out.
Im in a country using Pal system.
It seems as Noirist stated above... it will only allow you to edit AVCHD clips.
I can view Motion Jpg clips... but not edit them.
Im using a cheap SDHC card reader opening files directly from the card in the card reader then using Photofun by clicking on File then Aquire.
Working ok for me.
Plase note I was just checking if it works, not used it for any serious editing.
