Philip Bloom's initial GH2 review & video

Come to think of it, I had the same problem with the D90. It only shot at 24. I'm Palistani, so I had to speed up projects after I was done. This worked fine for me. The only problem could be if the footage had to go from one place to the other. Like, if I have a GH2, and have to do a project a-z for 25p, yeah I'd do it no problem. But if the sequence had to go somehwere else then a few other places then back... could be an issue.

Still, I completely forgot about the speeding up approach. This could seal the purchase. So far I've only seen good stuff come out of cinema mode.

the 25p mode is the same as the gh1 mode. 17mb/s embedded in a 50i stream...24p it is

Can't wait to see some clean HDMI + nanoflash results.
+1, but from the retail Japanese GH2. All these pre-production camera tests are good, but these things are in "final" form already.

I guess the only interest in the European pre-production units is whether they do shoot some extractable form of 25p or not. Publicly posted samples of 1080/50i footage from pre-production GH2 units indicate that 50i stream is constructed from 50p samples to emulate an interlaced camcorder output, not 25PsF.

very easy to remove that dead pixel but that gh1 vertical banding always killed me. Uploading a fixed version now. My production unit doesn't have it, it's the one i bought in japan, did not use it due to me not being used to the Japanese menus yet.
OK, I'll buy it; I was going to buy it anyway :)

Great, exciting info. But i'd like to hear more about the GH2's audio--from anyone. I'm a documentary filmmaker and I'd love it if I didn't have to do dual system audio/video all the time. I understand the drawbacks of the puny audio jack, but I'm wondering if the GH2 records audio well enough for ENG, verite style shooting (obviously with a good mic attached).

We don't know for certain yet, but chances are the GH2's audio capabilities are probably very similar to the GH1 (the GH2 adds audio meters and rudimentary level control). This has been discussed quite a bit previously, but in case you hadn't seen the following:

Here's an ENG-style shoot I did awhile ago using my GH1 with a wireless handheld mic:

Ozpeter has posted helpful audio-related GH1 info, including:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?177740-Undocumented-%28-%29-GH1-feature-mic-socket-has-plugin-power

There's much more GH1 audio info elsewhere on DVXuser, especially in the GH1 hardware section:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?181-GH1-Hardware-Lenses-etc.

I'm sure more GH2-related audio info will soon reveal itself, such as whether or not there's an easy way to monitor live audio via the cam's AV out connector, separate from the live audio supposedly embedded in the HDMI output. Stay tuned.

Hey Peter, thanks for the link to your video, the audio is great. I have a similar mic/wireless but have only been using the H4n and pluraleyes. Can you give me a link to the exact adapter I will need to plug in to the GH2 to record on board audio? I know it is smaller than standard but what is the adapter you are using, is it stereo?

Also, I see you are in Portland. I am running a great filmmaker's training program next summer down at Willamette University in Salem which you might be interested in, we have some great instructors including one of the directors of "ER" and "CSI NY" and Philip Bloom is scheduled to teach with us again, he taught at our program last summer. Here's the link:

Thanks, I'll check it out. Cheers.

Thanks Peter, funny, I forgot started that thread - was out of town and didn't check back to see your answer.
