Periodical Workout Thread ...

Anybody else here have Nike+? Yeah, it's vain, but it's also fun...

I've had it for two weeks, and it's REALLY helped me stay motivated. I'm just doing a Walk-to-Run program...should be good for my 5k in October.

I remember I wanted one when it first came out...I kinda forgot about it since I don't do much long distance running. I can imagine it would be pretty sweet.

well, here's another one for ya! :)

this one took me forever today!

3 rounds for time:

800 meter run
30 pull ups
40 push ups
50 squats

my time - 38:30

Hey guys, if it makes you feel any better - it emerged yesterday that my fellow Australians have now overtaken Americans as the fattest people on the planet (26% of our adult population is obese, compared to a measly 25% of the USA's)!

today I took it a little easy, didn't really push myself

For Time:
45 thrusters @ 75 lbs (a front squat into a shoulder press)
45 pull ups (instead I did pull ups on the rings, my hands are all cut up)

my time = 10:28

I'm finding that after 3 months and losing almost 30 pounds that I'm starting to get these ridiculous cravings that I can't help but give into, today I had 12 donut holes, I just want to apologize to myself for having 12 donut holes :(

Oh well, still hittin the gym. NO MORE DONUT HOLES!!!!!

For time:

50,40,30,20,10 (reps)

Double Under Jump Ropes
Sit Ups

I'm not very skilled at the double unders, so instead I subbed 5 single jump ropes for one double under...but you end up doing a bunch more (250, 200, 150, 100, 50)

My time = 13:45

then some weighted pull ups - one rep each...got my personal record today!

10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 lbs

What do we all have the least of? Time. So, I'm always looking for ways to save time - when exercising, I try to combine doing several things. I use an iPod to learn a language while doing the 45 minutes a day five times a week on an elliptical machine - sometimes I watch work-related DVDs. I just found another way to maximize the benefits. Get a better workout by putting on a weight vest. I bought this one (I am NOT affiliated in any way with the company/merchant, just a satisfied customer):

http://www.weightvest.com/Pages/75lbSpage.html

With all the extras runs about $300. What's nice about it is that the weights are removable, so you can control the weight in 2.5lb increments from 0 to 75lb. Obviously, you start low, and gradually work your way up. I've been at it for about 2 months, and I'm up to 20lb. Again, you must start SLOW at LOW weight - otherwise you can easily hurt yourself. On the flip side, I used to carry a heavy backpack on my hikes to make my exercise more demanding, but the vest is much better balanced than the backpack, so actually it's better for your body.

Positives:

1)Amazing workouts - I hike in the LA mountains (Griffith Park), and my heart is just pounding, especially when I walk briskly uphill. I also wear it when doing my 45 minutes on an elliptical - wow!

2)You can adapt it to almost anything - hiking, threadmills, ellipticals, various pushups, pullups, rope-skipping, lunges, etc.

3)HUGE time saver - I often walk around the house or on errands in the vest, and I get exercise without even trying, just in the course of doing stuff. Way to get extra exercise!

4)Excellent way to increase bone health, not just muscle or cardio benefits - bones get stronger when you put weight on them.

Negatives:

1)It takes some time to get used the weight pressing on your shoulders - for the first few weeks my shoulders were sore.

2)You REALLY have to go slow and low weight in the beginning, because otherwise you'll find your body unused to the weight - you can twist a foot, or worse - your back.

3)You have to take care of the vest - throw the lining in the wash regularly... cause you're really sweating!

4)When out in the public, you'll occasionally come across a moron who'll mutter: "suicide bomber!". Thankfully, I've never had a problem with cops etc., but something to keep in mind.

Anyhow, maybe someone can use this. It's working for me. YMMV.

5 rounds

15 hang cleans @ 95 lbs
20 sit ups

I was going to do it for time, but my back tightened up on the 4th round, so I had to just call it after that to avoid injury.

Finished it off with a few push jerks - basically start with the bar at your shoulders as if you were going to shoulder press. Then you dip down a little and explode up. It's a fun lift, but it requires a lot of technique.

I did a few lifts... 95/125/135/155

I haven't been able to work out in about a week... I was just about to get back into it when I screwed up my back... This right after I renewed my gym membership... :furious3:

heh, it's kinda like a journal for me. I like being able to see all my previous workouts. Maybe I should just make a blog for it, so I don't have to take up forum space. I was hoping more people would post their daily workouts....
