People Watching- Downtown Phoenix, AZ

Just a few moments of people watching in downtown Phoenix, AZ. I originally went to document some of the architecture, but found watching all the people walking around me much more interesting.

This was also done to give me more practice with the 150, and I learned I need allot more :) The cam provides great images, but they are certainly not just given to you. I am gearing up for a documentary soon, and need to know this camera inside and out. The Vimeo version has added some compression artifacts, download the original to view at higher rez.

Shot in 720 60p, w/ a custom scene file. All the clips were converted to Cineform (Neo) files for post work (some color correction as my WB was a bit off) and for slow motion using Vegas 9 Pro. Slowing down raw AVCHD in Vegas in unpredictable, so the CF files really helped. The process was pain free and a joy to cut together. Rendered out as a Sony AVC 720 24p mp4 file. The 60p feature of this cam is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Regrettably, it was high noon when I was shooting, which is the hardest light to work with. I prayed for an overcast day that morning, but that does not happen often in AZ :)

Music was constructed using Cinescore, "room full of tears". Thanks for watching.

I dig it... what is it about slowing time down...

Can you post the scene file? This is the first time I've had a camera capable of that...

Hi Ed,

Watch this a few days ago. I guess vimeo killed this video. There's alot of artifacting going on.
The shots of people walking towards you are alot better then the once from the side.
Especially when you'll be doing doc edit , it's a good idea to get upclose and personal.
The shots all have a reddish tint and looks abit oversaturated.
Also thought there was this slight wobble in the pans. Is it because of your tripod ?

Goodluck with the doc Ed !

ditto on the scene file settings....what did you use?
your shots look nice and sharp!
i'm still trying to find settings that give sharp images and would love to know what you used.
thanks.

I would like to get a good zoom through telephoto adapter as I like the up close shots. With a 13x zoom, you have to get much closer and the people always point at the camera or shy away. The other mistake I made was leaving it on AF- you can see the frame vibrate quickly when a car drives infront of the two guys waiting to cross.

My original 20MB bit rate .mp4 files has no artifacting and is sharp as a tack. That was like 600mb, over my limit. The one sent to Vimeo is a 10MB bitrate. I may upgrade to Vimeo+ if enough people think the extra space and 2 pass encoding is worth it.

The color is a bit oversaturated yes, but that's OK to my taste. A result of my poor WB skills (I know better now). I will post the scene file settings in a bit.
