GH5 Paul Leemings New LUT for HLG Footage

Joe, I always use your old 8 bit GH4 V-LogL still frame with that problematic sweater as part of my testing regime. Here's the current V-LogL Pro beta. What do you think of the sweater colour (8 bit macroblocking errors aside)?

Paul,

Since you are talking color, I have found many purple shades to be an issue when considering video cameras. I recently shot a thing for the TCU Lacrosse team which includes a few different shades of purple in their logo and shirts etc... The project was shot with a Panasonic PX270 with my custom matrix settings as well as a GH5 using V-LOG and your LUT. I will tell you that the PX270 is spot on with the color and I had to put a key on the GH5 footage to get the purples correct. They were a bit on the blue side if left alone. Here is the finished project - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azzjlPymyqk

Thanks for your consideration.

If you can send me a PNG still of the V-LogL or a short, unprocessed clip direct from camera, I can try my new V-LogL Pro LUT with it and post it back to you if you wish :)

Paul, sent an unprocessed file from my timeline via We Transfer. This has three different lighting schemes included. I use GV Edius and sent the file as an 10bit HQX MFX file. Thanks.

Paul,

just purchased your lut, and tryingt to determine if I prefer using HLG or vlog.

Did a little video, same shot, same exposure, first in HLG and then in VLOG, applying both of your LUTs . Here is the result :

password : GH5

VLOG is a bit brighter and cooler, any specific reason for that ?
(obviously same exposure and WB for both shots, shot one just after the other)

IMO the sky looks better with the V-log, more contrast and more blue, but the blown-out highlights of the patio chair look better with the HLG. Either way, both are great for high dynamic scenes like this one.

This is what I have seen with my little testing between VLOG and HLG. It seems the HLG has a bit of middle grey that is tough to get out. Kind of makes the footage a little 'dingy' or muddled. The VLOG has a better sense of clarity and the colors seem a bit brighter. I plan on looking closer once the new version of the LUT is released.

That looks pretty good, Paul. The actual shirt is more blue and less purple, but very close.
