So the client is willing to work with RED footage, which has not always been easy, but required coming up with a new work flow, but they are not willing to go through the effort of figuring out what the best work flow is for AVCHD? I mean honestly, is it really that hard? Couldn't you use a utility like mpegstreamclip on the PC side and batch convert to whatever codec you have installed that you want? We use it on the mac side with every camera we use to get the same starting files before we go into the NLE. For the AVCHD files we convert with clipwrap first, but still, it's really not that hard.
Given you are on a PC, can't you still just use CS5 native with AVCHD as well? I really don't see the problem. I know NO ONE that uses DVCPRO HD for ANYTHING in their NLEs. Why reduce the quality of what you are capturing. Seems like a waste to me.
