Panny's HDV Camera?

Re: Panny's HDV Camera?

Wow If thats true, then I'll be one happy camper! ;D
I tried to resize the pics, but I couldn't really make out anything...

Re: Panny's HDV Camera?

isnt that the z1 and not a panasonic? or do i look at the wrong picture?
the other one is a p2HD palm cam.....whatever that is....

Re: Panny's HDV Camera?

Rumor has it that it still has 1/3'' CCDs, but can record in 1080i as well as 720p. I think it supports 1080/24p, but I'm not sure.

Switchable 25mpbs/50mbps bitrate. 50mbps mpeg 2 should actually look pretty great in 24p. Considering mpeg 2 is a more efficient compressor than DVCPROHD and the varicam throws out a lot of data, you'll get more resolution and less compression than the varicam. The images still won't be nearly as good due to the smaller ccds, though, I fear.

Re: Panny's HDV Camera?

we will need to build cases for them to be taken serous when shooting ads with these "super 8 " cams.....but if they pull off a 3CCD HD for 3000 then SONY is in trouble yet again with bringing something to counter that muahhahahaha

Re: Panny's HDV Camera?

yeah panny showed that off at NAB 2004.. its very light. (balsa)

Mr Land, Did you see any footage off this camera at NABB? All these new technology and I barely can keep up. People here are busy rendering while I'm here still rewinding.

Re: Panny's HDV Camera?

Babelfish gives some interesting results with the above page. These are just straight quotes from the babelfish translation so don't get too excited. These could be pure speculation or a complete mistranslation.

But, under the first P2 camera picture it says:

"Sample only(mock-up and Mock-up)as, small-sized memory card camera recorder "P2Palm" HD-MPEG type was displayed."

AND, under the second P2 camera there's this:

"With, sample only (mock-up and Mock-up)as to theside next door, small-sized memory card camera recorder "P2Palm" DVCPROHD type was displayed."

So, apparently there might be 2 different models? One with MPEG and the other with DVCPRO-HD? A consumer format and a more expensive prosumer camera?

Don't quote me, quote the babelfish please... I don't want to be the source of another pointless rumour... :)

Re: Panny's HDV Camera?

..the technology sounds cool. but that thing looks like a toy. when they make that class of cam i hope it gets packaged alot more professionally like the DVX, rather than a hybrid super8/palmcorder as they had it there.

Re: Panny's HDV Camera?

I really doubt that it will look like that. I think it is ugly, and it looks to small in my opinon. I am really interested in the P2 card rumor. DV tapes are very expensive, as will be the P2 cards, but it is a one time investment. Also, I really want a compression other then MPEG2 for HD. Compression artifacts are a big deal as the world will soon find out when people go hag crazy buying Sony's HDV cam, plus that cinaframe crap. Panny will come through for us.

That is, two mock-ups(HD-MPEG Type & DVCPROHD Type) were exhibited
about the "small memory card camera recorder"...
Still, since it is called mock-up, there are many undecided elements...

Re: Panny's HDV Camera? Wishlist!

Re: Panny's HDV Camera? Wishlist!

Wishlist!

Because Panasonic is not a member of the HDV consortium, and plan to develop their own MPEG packed consumer HD format for P2 media, we should list what we want to be in that format. What would be good enough.
HDV is barely not good enough. It has 25 Mb/s which results in artifacts especially in low light with 18dB gain (I've tested it). Movement is not a problem for it, nor is blocking, but it will do posterizing on surfaces with similar color.
HDV also has MPEG compressed audio, which certainly is not better than miniDVs uncompressed 48kHz. The audio should also be hi-def in a hi-def camera!

So, here's what I would like to see, to make me sell my HDR-FX1 and buy a Panasonic in 2006:

-name it e.g. HDC or HDCPRO (C for panasoniC)
-licence Cineforms wavelet codec with variable bitrate (this is possible, because we don't need constant bitrate as it's not a tape format!) The codec works both in 8 bits and 10 bits, so make this a decision of the cinematographer. 10 bits is really needed for color grading.
-48 kHz 2 or 4 channel audio, maybe even 5.1 on the finished product (this would be HD audio!)
-1920x1080p resolution. Well, 1280x720p might be fine if the codec is the cineforms. P as in progressive.

Less important, and for the camera:
-make an expanded focus fuction like in the HDR-FX1, but make it also work during recording.
-XLRs ofcourse.
-make an option to have the whole LCD empty of markings.
-manual focus ring with end stops and measures. This is more important than to have a zoom ring with end stops! Repeatable focus is a must for fiction work. It would also be nice to have the remote control also control the focus. And have focus numbers with x.xx digits in the LCD.

Let's build a list and send it to Panasonic as an official request list from the DVXuser.com forum!

Re: Panny's HDV Camera?

Another shot of the mock up.

Just wondering out loud here.  Some say the camera manufactures won't tell you about a new camera because they don't want the other companies to find out, true.

But just for fun.

Let's say the pro-consumer camera is being tested right now and Panasonic said by NAB 2005 we're going to have the DVXHD ready with true 16x9, 24p at 1080p or 720p, hd audio (records to a hard drive and backs up to tape at the same time would be nice) and said its going to hit the market for around $5,000.

How many people would just go ahead and wait and wouldn't this kill the Sony for those of us who want to do a film-out?

Sometimes its just fun just to guess about things.
