Panny open the curtains just a little before tomorrow

Fixed lens. Boy, I truly hope I'm wrong, but fixed lens cams are just never really good enough for my purposes. The biggest problem is always the lack of a wide end, and if I have to deal with wide angle adapters, then I may as well not have a fixed lens, what's the point? I'd love something that would go to at least 18mm (FF equivalent), but that's never going to happen. So my expectations are really low here.

I get what you're saying, but I used wide angle adaptors for a long time with no problems. For me, fixed lens large sensor is the only hole in the market right now. We have many many interchangeable choices, from DSLR style GH4 / A7S / 1DC, through mid range Blackmagics / LS300 / C100mk2 / FS7 / C300 mk2 to high end Red / F5 / F55 / Amira / Alexa - the list goes on. For fixed lens we only have poor cousins like the PXW-X70 or very well established small sensor cams like the XF305 / PMW200. Fixed lens cameras are a huge market - travel / one man band / journalism / low end broadcast. Even ENG cameras are effectively fixed lens most of the time. IMO, a large sensor cam (either 4k or not) in that playing field would earn huge money for whoever makes one. I guess we'll find out in 24 hours :)

I'll keep an open mind, but in this day and age to truly be the "new DVX100", this camera would have to have a whole lot going for it, other than just 4K. It'll need to have a great codec, a great sensor, and offered at a very reasonable price. Anything short of that, including a good price will mean that while it may be a good camera, it won't be the new DVX. Here's hoping though!

If the new camera has a 24-300 f2.8 constant lens with the PX270 body, servo motors, codecs and menu structure, then in my view it would be the modern DVX100. We will see if they can "go there". As Tom stated, this would be a money maker camera imho. If it is a massive ramping lens like the new Canon, then nice try, no thanks. Panasonic has to know this or they deserve to get the criticism.

Me also dont like fix lebs. Like Canon 2.5K theres the panny fz1000, almost same or better features asvhave a better zoom and for 799€ compated to canon xc10 2500€ ye I know that canon seems coming from and justify by going to Marth and Jupiter with canon prices, so.. Why another fixed lens, and panny also have the x1000..

I will be so disappointed if this is a fixed lens camera, and the only new Panasonic 4k camera introduced at NAB. Even if this turns out to be a S35 the fixed lens would be a deal breaker for me. The one caveat would be if the lens was a constant f2.8 leica
I might be interested then, so I guess we will have to wait and see. I really hope this camera shoots 4k and has both a kit zoom and is interchangeable. If so sign me up straight away ! This would be truly disruptive !

I'll keep an open mind and wait for tomorrow. I hope they offer more than 8bit 4:2:0 at 4K.

I'm going to wildly guess but I think it will be a PX270 based or a professional HC-X1000 camera with 2/3" or 1" sensor maybe larger? But the key will be using the crazy compact lens tech that the PX270 uses to achieve fast lens / large zoom. Obviously 4K with 10bit 422 internal with external raw recording.

Or maybe the statement intended to merely note the significance of this new product - "as disruptive as DVX 100".

If Panasonic wants to "disrupt the industry", it would have to be more than a logical upgrade and/or merging of existing cameras. The most recent disruptive forces in the camera world in the DVX100 low cost mold have been DSLRs (which essentially forced lower cost large sensor cameras) and Black Magic cameras (which told the industry people want better recording formats).

Hope they aren't setting things up for a let down. Claiming a New DVX is a bold statement.

We all have different wants and needs. There are a lot of large sensor cameras out there now to choose from. I think Panasonic senses a camera has to be a bit unique to get traction. Just like Canon has chosen a market for its fixed lens camera, if this camera is a fixed lens PX270 with a large sensor Panasonic has obviously chosen the eng/efp working crowd to target. They probably want to keep the price above $3,500 so that rules out a lot of DSLR shooters. Burnt by the AF-100 lack of acceptance, it seems logical to me.

4K/60p? 4:2:2 in-camcorder?

Different tools for different people, if one likes an interchangeable lens on a camera then that tool is for them. There's a huge market for fixed lens cine cams, I'm one of those demographics, this is HUGE!

The DVX100 shook the industry and was the world's first 24P camera at such a price. If panny hits this the right way, they will have a huge following.....again.

Shot two major features, one on the DVX100 and one on the HVX200, the audience didn't give a damn about the camera used but there's something about the panny mojo that others can not match.
