GH5 Panasonic xlr adapter- anyone using it?

I find myself using my GH5 more and more for pro shoots. I’m thinking about adding the XLR adapter. I’m wondering what others experiences have been with it. Good, bad, both, other?

I also use the XLR adapter, but not all the time.

As mentioned above it’s easier to plug in when not attached to the GH5, & if moving around a location I’ll usually disconnect the adapter from the camera, & hand the unit to the SoundPerson.
 
I tried it works really well from a technical standpoint- for me from an operational standpoint it adds some bulk and I like to use the gh5 pretty much as is just with a battery grip for better ergonomics. It starts feeling like a c300 which in my book isn't a good thing.

Its great but has two downsides. Unlike my Sony camcorders it is not possible to use one mic, feed both channels with different levels and also not select auto gain for one channel and full manual for the other.
 
I use it when I can for 1 or 2 inputs. It’s great. Switchable line inputs, good low noise on the preamps and it’s very small and light - a lot lighter than dragging along my sound bag! Works like a champ, just get it.
 
I use it all the time in a studio setting with the GH5, the sound guys really like that it has all the controls they can mess with, XLR inputs, and 24bit audio if they want to go that route.

I do plan to use it primarily for studio and interview situations. Except for my wireless systems, all of my mics need phantom power. I've been trying to get by without it and just use wireless..but I'm living life on the edge with this strategy. Thanks for the input and responses folks!
 
I just bought one used from the Buy/Sell forum on this site. Testing looks good, I get the same quality sound result as when using my Tascam DR60D or ZoomH6 with an old Sony shotgun mic. Much more compact setup for one man operation. I like it real well.

I'm retired and do video for personal projects, not doing anything professional.
 
This was a great move by Panasonic to make a pro level 24bit sound option. I really elevates the GH series for real work. As stated, it is essential.

So true. I've used the GH2, GH3, and GH4 professionally in the past... on occasion. The audio dilemma was the reason they got occasional/B cam use. Among other improvements, this XLR adapter will be the item that allows me to use the GH5 in a more primary role.
 
The XLR adapter is overpriced, but it's worth it. Sound quality is on par with the BEST camcorders I've ever used (camera guy perspective, not a formal sound guy) and really is valuable for ease of operation. It uses more battery power (at least when Phantom Power is used), but I typically only use it in "studio" configuration with a cage, and in that case I have the battery grip with the second battery or running AC/DC adapter. My studio config is a SmallRig cage with the "hood" for the XLR adapter, and I sort of think it's mandatory for physical protection of the XLR adapter...

I suspect it will also work with the upcoming FF cameras, so the investment is probably sound. Get it? "sound". Ha.

I absolutely agree with you concerning the necessity to physically protect the GH5 XLR module against knocks that could otherwise easily break the module's foot and/or the camera hot shoe!

I actually gave SmallRig feedback last year, while they designed the "GH5 helmet", to avoid some serious flaws they had in their first drawings.

I think they now really have the best cage solution for the GH5/GH5s from the XLR integration point of view...

i wish it fit the panasonic g9 or there was an oem xlr solution for the g9.

I've always wanted to get one of these...
My biggest "put off" is all the controls are on the LEFT side.
I do all my work on the right side.
 
Anyone try the Lanparte extension cable?
Suppossedly the Canon OC-3 external flash cable adapter works also?

These would be great, if they work, allowing to mount how you wanted, and NOT on the hot shoe mount of the camera body.
