Yes, I just received this email from Panasonic: "Cinema acquisition is about to change… forever. Join us for the unveiling of the newest addition to the Panasonic VariCam lineup of cinema cameras."

Let's hope it's something good!

I'm hoping its a model that sits underneath the Varicam HS and is more affordable. Perhaps a competitor to the Sony FS7?

"Mobile cinema acquisition is about to change… forever."

Yeah... hoping it's a FS7 competitor. Perhaps the P2/AVC-Intra DVX200 with removable lens a lot of folks wanted?

I would wager it's several steps above that. It's got the Varicam logo on it under that sheet, so... I can't see it being less than an FS7 competitor.
Yup. My feeling exactly.

Right now, there's a gap between FS7 an C300 MKII and then F5. I'd bet this is even higher than that. Something between F5 and F55. Panasonic has a lot of room between FS7 tier and Varicam. A double-price theory would make this a $30,000 unit (half of Varicam).

The ad makes it look high end too.

Since we're into guessing, my money would be on a "one piece" Varicam 35. (Rather than the current dockable recorder, and choice of s35 or 2/3" front ends.) For the high end market it's in, I get the impression that a camera with no 4K ability (even if now used in HD) is not seen as a good investment and I suspect that interest in the current Varicam is heavily biased to the s35 variant with the dockable recorder. (??) If you want to use 2/3" lenses, then use such with the s35 and a B4-s35 adaptor.

If you accept that, the dockable concept doesn't now make much sense, and a one piece design based on the s35 front end would offer all that the current Varicam does - but should be smaller, lighter, and consequently less expensive.

That's where I'd put my money, where I wouldn't put a bet is on any 4/3 based design ("the AF200"). Something like that may come eventually, but I don't see it having a "Varicam" logo on it.

Not an FS7 competitor… Have been rumors of 2/3" 4K… Just hit up a reliable source this afternoon and they said Panny was not saying much.

Judging from the top handle, and where the "V" badge is located, I'd say S35 lens mount and sensor package only. It probably needs an external recorder.

Well, you and I are guessing. Some people here have the insider knowledge.

Having thought more about it, I wonder about the pre-CP+ announcement. CP+, as far as I know, is more about the consumer/prosumer gear. Then again, 1D X MKII should be announced at around the same time (Canon has an "event" already scheduled).

Then, there's that Panasonic/Leica model - 24 MPX FF - that can be easily modded into an AF-200 type shoulder shooter.

Or .... maybe there's more than one Panasonic camera being unveiled! Or ...
