panasonic spare parts rumor

There have been a few threads regarding this topic today that have vanished from dvxuser.com

What's the deal? Personally I'd like to hear more about this so I can get rid of my camera before it's too late. Why were these threads? whats t'he big issue, the truth is a wonderful thing.

The truth *is* a wonderful thing--spreading panicky rumors is not. There is absolutely no confirmation that Panasonic has discontinued selling spare DVX100 parts and in fact, under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, they're legally obligated to provide parts for some time.

I understand not wanting to cause a stampede based on questionable info but on the other hand, people should be aware of this crap. At the very least, the original poster could do us all a favor by following up with Panasonic to identify the individual and report him to management--for everyones sake. Would be nice to hear that the clown got fired. Then we'll see who gets the last laugh.

I've already forwarded the original message on to Panasonic to get to "the bottom of it." And if there's truth to it, I'll be back here reporting that truth.

But until then, having some unsubstantiated, market-disrupting rumor flying around serves no valid purpose whatsoever and just spreads FUD.

I was one of those posters and have gladly given all my Panasonic contact information to Barry so he can do a full investigation. He has promised he will advise me of the results, true or false, at his earliest convenience.

There was a couple of threads already posted with Jan stating that this is untrue.

surfshooter, this was already pointed out to you in a thread that YOU started in the cafe. you've already gotten your answer so please stop posting these threads.

yes i did, but then the post went MIA, sorry for wanting an answer. I hope my double posting of a thread didn't ruin your day... :)

I thought Barry Green had already queried you on this Jan, but I'm forwarding Lensmith's info on this matter.

I sent an e-mail, but I'm finding that many of my e-mails haven't been going through. Might be related to being overseas somehow but several people haven't gotten messages I've sent...

Hi,

So here is the skinny.

The PCB boards are being discontinued but that does not mean that the camera cannot be repaired, It just has to be done at the component level instead of just swapping out boards. Anthony didn't realize that he was not clear about what was what. So it is really not the end of the world just a different door to pass through.

Hope that clarifies the situation.

Best,

Jan

Ok,,,Jan says the PCB boards are being discontinued. So how do you make a NEW DVX100 without the PCB board? Sure this might mean you can go through a different door to repair a DVX100, but have they found a door to go through to make a new cam without that board?

Does this mean we can start talking about the new DVX300?

Thanks for the information Jan.

I would like to point out any camera ever made can be repaired at the component level...unless it's tube based. :)

I'm glad to hear there is still hope of life for my DVX!

I would think that Jan means that it's being discontinued as a part. They will continue to manufacture them, but only as many as they need for new cameras, not any surplus to use in repairs.

That said, the last time we had a DVX worked on, the people we sent it to first tried to repair at the component level, and that didn't fix the problem, so they wound up having to swap out a board. So I can't say that I'm all that optimistic about what's going to happen the next time we need a DVX fixed... :(
