Panasonic Removable Lens Four Thirds HD AVCHD Camera

At least the GH1 is showing improvements on the technology. As of now at least we can start planning to use the GH1 on future projects. If the D400 materializes and is even better then great, we will start having more choices.

What is the audio specs? All the Pana site says is built in stereo mic, dolby, wind cut of feature. Sounds like a recorder and slating would be required.

Hey all, might me a dumb question but people keep bringing up the possible notion of a D400. was this not just a rumor?

I wouldn't say that about HVX-200s or better.

I guess one of those or a new Zoom might be a good solution, but you would still need to slate right? Or did they mention something about sync abilities?

Will Panasonic add 'Flash Compensation'?

With rolling shutters, a flash can over expose a stripe on the frame rather than the whole frame. At a wedding, 'red carpet', or other event where lots of people are firing flashes it dramatically reduces the effectiveness of CMOS rolling shutter cameras.

At NAB Panasonic's pro video group showed a summer firmware enhancement for the HPX300 that fixes it. While I don't know if there is any interframe component, it appears to over expose the rest of the frame to match the part that was hit with the flash. Clever and rather simple.

Now, will it make it to the GH-1?

You could just do it in post as well. So yeah, clever, simple and effective.

April 24th is almost here. >=D Heeee

Okay, I have seen the footage.

I am now a believer.

Adam Wilt and I got to go (separately) to see a preview of the GH1, with some footage they shot at 720/60p of some caribbean island or something. It was astonishingly good. We were talking for 20 minutes about it. I tried to weasel the card away from them so I could post it for you guys, but that didn't happen. Sorry, I did try. A lot. A whole lot.

I never got the whole "I'm gonna use a DSLR to shoot a movie" thing before. I get it now.

Wow...

You heard it from the man himself. Can't wait to get my hand on one of these. :)

Hey Barry,

Do elaborate. Was it the whole package that was good like resolution/sharpness, manual control, DOF control etc? How did it compare to D90 and 5dMkII footage?

Coming from you and having seen it live carries a lot more weight then most of the hearsay we've heard until now.

Thanks,
Andy

Barry Green condones DSLR video?

Barring nothing odd happens my GH-1 arrives in la on the 27th. Here's hoping Panasonic got it close to right!

You already purchased one Kholi? I didn't know they were for sale, yet.

I'm glad you got the first one because you're like one of the DVXuser Equipment Reviewers...you should have your own gadget talk show.

Laters,
Andy

Barry Green's endorsement is all I have to hear! Can't wait to see footage and get mine! I know Panasonic won't let us down. Finally a little sister for my HVX 200!
