GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

How long does the battery last while the camera is recording with the LCD screen opened?

On the GH4, the thing that had the greatest impact on battery life was having autofocus engaged. I think the impact of the LCD screen is negligible, because if you close the LCD, the viewfinder turns on, and they probably draw about the same power. On the GH5, the 5-axix IBIS will probably have a large impact on battery life as well.

The specifications page has this for battery run times;

Best review yet IMHO.

I totally agree this Gordon Laing Camerlabs review is the best. Its a must read for all interested in the gh5.

A preview of some key points & enticement to go read it :-) :
⦁ AF speed can be "blisteringly quick", even at 9fps.
⦁ in very low light, GH5 AF worked when Canon EOS M5 AF failed
⦁ body-only stabilization is great with unstabilized lenses - just as good as Olympus
⦁ body stabilization alone just as good/better as dual ????
⦁ Post Focus..."works so transparently it almost feels like you’re working with a Light Field image. "
⦁ phone app can trigger the GH5 to automatically wakeup & make a backup when it detects your home Wifi network!
⦁ new Intelligent Detail processing = sharp images, no artifacts
⦁ very natural skin
⦁ "sprinkling of noise " begins at 1600, and up to 6400 will be usable for many - fast lenses with new stabilization = rarely need to shoot above 800
⦁ video better than anything else at price point
⦁ lotta sample images and videos in article
⦁ Conclusion: he says "...greatly extending the quality and capabilities of the earlier GH4... the feature-set, formats and frame rates surpass anything in its class ...The GH5 is a no-brainer for video pros but also becomes a highly compelling stills camera too – Highly Recommended."
⦁ Gordon did his usual great job reviewing - highly recommend you read the entire article and use the "buy me a coffee" link

As I said before I can work just fine with the GH5 which should be in my hands tomorrow.

Sell me your Raven? lol

[Although I'm assuming you don't have one yet and just using the GH5 (and others) as placeholders. Or maybe you use all of them!]

Regarding vlog upgrade, if I want it on launch, do I have to pre-order that now somewhere (is it snail mail like the GH4 was?) or can I just purchase online once I have the camera and enter serial key to unlock immediately?

Want to make sure I am ready out the gate

Perhaps try Hot Rod Cameras. I inquired yesterday & they had V-Log upgrades in stock. Wouldn't be surprised if they'd open it for you, & email the serial number so you can install immediately.

Won't get that type of service from B&H, or similar, & you'd be supporting one of the best boutique vendors that caters to the professional market.
