GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

I'm curious if this is even from a GH5 to be honest. The OP of the video has a handful of videos in his Vimeo account, with 20 or 30 views each, and then all of a sudden he gets access to the GH5 early? Hmmmmm :violent5:

I stand corrected, he works for Panasonic Canada. But that footage is really not painting the GH5 in a good light.

OK so I did talk to the Panasonic rep to-nite. a) he was not willing to be recorded - per Pana rules only the guy who did the Samys presentation can be recorded. b) all of his experience is with firmware v.4 - so things may change. c) I was able to handle the camera but not allowed to put in an SD card.

DVXUSER.com FORUM QUESTIONS
1. HDMI lag still there? --- Yes, but it is lessened in v.4, wont know how much total until v1.0
2. metabone XL clearance to sensor ok? --- This was interesting. We actually had an XL to try. After mounting it, it turned out that the XL firmware is not compatible with the GH5 - we just got a fuzzy screen. He said that metabones needed to update their firmware. Were they talking to each other? - not that he knew but he wouldnt necessarily know about it. He saidXL works on the g85 which uses the same sensor and IBIS. SO he seemed optimistic but could not say for sure...
3. formal DR numbers? --- Panasonic doesnt officially publish these sorts of numbers for any camera except for the vlog which he said was 12 on gh4 and that the gh5 was a better camera <shrug>. He did say that in general, subjectively to him, the highlites looked better. And that ISO was at least 1 stop better too. IN general the GH5 image is very noticeably better than GH4.
4. Guide frames - 1.85, 2.35, 2.39 ? --- Nope not in v.4. He said he had asked for it too but no commitment from development at this point.
5. can Like709 profile achieve similiar DR to v-log? --- no official comment yet
6. ISO: base in normal & vlog ? : DR falls in higher ISO? ---- they dont publicly present such info.
7. Is the debayering pattern in the 4K crop mode (4K window) the same as when the entire sensor is used? 9X9 pixels, not the usual 2x2? --- YES
8. Base ISO in normal + vlog modes? Dynamic Range fall over higher ISO range? --- Again no published specs - and again he says high end looks better to him.
9. AutoFocus in slow motion - I have heard conflicting things. What is the highest VFR mode that AF will function? 60p? In Both 1080 and 4K? --- No auto in slowmo. We got distracted by someone so missed second half of this question...
10. Any updates to the actual Lumix APP itself? We still can't do full screen monitoring on it? other updates? --- Yes lots of updates being worked but full screen is unknown right now, they have full bluetooth coming to transfer settings and stream
11. Will they consider a 400mbps IPB mode - for better quality slow motion, or better quality in shots where I don't need all-intra? --- Not in slomo
12. Document stated that 48p mode will be available in 4:2:2 10-bit in the summer. Confirm on this? --- Confirmed for 1080, not in 4K yet in v.4 (must enable variable frame rate)
13. ask if the final FW can show exposure info during all video modes? --- Too early to know for sure
14. Is the AFS working in 6k photo? --- Yes
15. What are the 3 biggest gotchas that they aren't telling anyone about ? --- laughed, none given
16. I was able to handle the camera - a) it is a bit beefier feeling but in a good way, will fit most existing cages I expect. b) the right side grip is improved, much more contoured with a lip on top and the material is grippier feeling, c) the video button is moved to top which I like, but it is not easily reached with index finger - too close to right edge for me d) the new joystick is cool and will be a hit I expect e) the new EVF is very good what i especially like was how the overlays were smaller but still very readable f) new auto-focus looked very good, more flexible & much faster than GH4, g) menus visually cleaner looking and things moved around somewhat H) yes the flip-out looks better
17. I asked how good the stabilization was? --- said it was GREAT, you may still want a gimbal for some types of movement such as glides & extremes but in many cases that camera is enough (i.e. dont sell your gimbals if you are a smooth fanatic)
18. He had the new 12-60 lens. It looked & felt good. $1000 list. Heres the widest F at each width: 12mm=2.8, 18=3.2, 25=3.5, 40=3.9, 50=3.9, 60 = 4.0
18. Instead of down-rezzing 5k to 4K, can you just crop to 4K and output? --- Nope
19. Currently looks like preorders probably going out 3rd week in March. :-)
20. they have gotten a LOT of preorders
21. From me: Did you guys notice in the Samys video that they offered free vlog if you preorder right after that local presentation? They are doing other local presentations around the USA...

thats it, dont really have anything else i havent written above so wont be able to explain much further...

I agree, some really nice stuff out there but this looks worse literally than my old HPX170.

Its like fake news!

Apologies to Mr. Toal, but that is objectively bad footage. I don't know why anyone would post it, let alone an employee of Panasonic. Under-exposed, mixed-lighting footage looks terrible? Yeah, it would look terrible from a RED Weapon.

Muchos Thankos!

Proof that no camera will make you special or talented. NO CAMERA. Somehow people think, "If I get that camera I'm gonna be great and my pictures will be awesome".

I looked at that down vote and thought about it for quite some time. I had a similar reaction, but I'm not yet convinced that there is a reading of the Dusty's post that makes a downvote legitimate. I don't know what the interpretation is, but I think there is possibilities. For example, you may interpret Dusty's posting as an insult. Suppose the downvoter is Mark Toal, the videographer of that piece.

If there is a legitimate reason for the downvote, I'd like to hear it from the person that gave the downvote. It leaves you wondering what's up.

Well thank you kindly. You have a beer coming.

Speaking of beer.... I was at an event last night to rase money for our local Repertory Theatre, and one of the bid items was beer for a year from a local brewery. Rule of thumb... If you want to bid on beer for a year, don't attend events with your wife.

But it's for a good cause!
