GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

One of the many gh5 reviews there was an illustration telling what lenses would receive firmware upgrades this year to make them fully compatible with Dual IS 2 in the gh5 stabilization system. Anyone know what existing Panasonic lenses.will be upgraded? They would join the recently introduced lenses as especially desirable for use with the gh5.

Things I find annoying from reading the PDF spec sheet brochure:

I thought 10-bit 4:2:2 in Full HD at ALL-I 200mbps was coming in the summer. Currently, there appears to be NO 10-bit 4:2:2 even in IPB or lower bitrate for any FHD 1080p resolutions? And of further concern, if 10b422 all I in FHD was announced for summer, there was no mention of 10b422 IPB for FHD at all? Huh?

It appears all 1080 modes are 8-bit 4:2:0?

Moreover, there is no information on what bitrate and codec the VFR modes work or would work up to. I guess it's irrelevant for FHD right now but I would have wanted to know the max VFR I could shoot at in HD while maintaining 10b 4:2:2

If this is actually the case, this is a deal breaker. I shoot almost everything in some element of VFR even if very subtle (and 30p or 48p conformed won't cut it) and if its not internal 10b422 to enable good use of vlog, then its a bust. Assuming all of that gets enabled in the summer than thats worth consideration, but it would mean cancelling my pre-order as who knows what else could happen in the 3-4 months after launch.

Someone please tell me I am reading this wrong or missing something.

Is no one else phased by this? Am I missing something? No 10bit 4:2:2 in 1080?

GH5 has iso200, not starting at iso400 as someone has said.

GH5 also does not show exposure info when using auto exposure. Nick Driftwood said that in a GH5 chat. I hope they will fix it for final FW.

GH5 has auto iso in M with EV comp but it wont show what iso it is using. Weird?

GH5 will show all exposure info in 5.2k video but not in 4k normal video. Makes no sense.

I have faith that Panasonic will address these things provided they are possible to fix, but first let them get this new camera out.

The problem is that Panasonic has decided not to show exposure info with auto exposure.

The USB-C port will be useful - 5Gbps - specially if you have the new MacBook Pro (which only has USB-C ports - no SD card slot).

I use the Lexar UHS-II USB 3.0 card reader plugged into a USB 3.0 slot on my 6-core MacPro that comes with the 2000x Lexar UHS-II SDXC card and I don't think the USB 3.1 on the GH5 will be that much faster when transferring data off the SDXC cards. BTW I hear the reason why Panasonic is not coming out with 400Mbps until summer is to wait for the UHS-II V60/V90 SDXC cards to be more available. I am sure my current Lexar UHS-II 2000x 300MB/s SDXC cards are fast enough but they have the SD Association U3 rating sticker them and I know they are 3x faster than the cheap UHS-i U3 cards out there.

I use a Delkin USB 3.0 card reader that maxes out at 140 MB/sec when transferring video from my Lexar UHS-II cards. Given how the data transfers ( it stays maxed out for most of the transfer ) I get the feeling that USB 3.0 is not able to transfer any faster than this. ( portable USB 3.0 hard-drives also max out at this data-rate )

In theory USB 3.1 should be able to transfer data at 1.67 times USB 3.0 speed, which would mean 233 MB/sec transfers, but I would need a USB 3.1 computer and USB 3.1 card reader to realize this speed boost...

April 2017 Firmware Update : Adds FHD 10-bit 4:2:2 recording

Yeah but only in All-I from what I read - *not* IPB?

And this therefore also raises questions as to what VFR frame rate that will be available in for HD (any at all?). I know it's already technically possible but having the omission there is very strange indeed, and makes me wonder if its a more a marketing differentiation.

The Lexar reader is UHS-II to read the extra pins on UHS-II cards so it is faster than the Delkin UHS-I reader.

The Delkin USB 3.0 reader is a UHS-II reader too and uses all of the pins on the UHS-II cards to read also.

As I stated previously, I think my 140 MB/sec read speed is limited by the USB 3.0 bus, and might get a significant boost when both computer and reader are upgraded to using USB 3.1

Yes, the A7SII, unless Sony comes out with an AS7SIII by October. But I still want to check out the GH5 when it comes out. In general I like Panasonic way more than Sony - the Panasonic cameras have a level of QC and polish that is just not to be had in a Sony. What Sony does well is to put top specs into a camera as soon as the technology comes online, but then they rarely come out with something that's nicely thought out and usually it's pretty buggy (overheating etc.). Panasonic takes their time with specs, but they deliver a polished product. I really, really wish I could stay with Panasonic, not to mention how much money I already sunk into the format. Going Sony is going to be expensive and painful, but that low light situation with the GH series is just too big a flaw (but again, I'll check out the GH5 when it comes out).

I was considering that camera too. But the 29 minute recording limit is a deal breaker for me. I need to record long interviews and events.

I think Panasonic's Michiharu Uematsu said in one of his interviews that the old LUMIX 12-35mm f2.8 cannot do Dual IS because of a mechanical limitation. I'm assuming that means that the old LUMIX 35-100mm f2.8 can do it with a firmware update.

I could be wrong. I tried to find a link but I cannot remember which video had that quote and I've seen so many in the last few days.
