The biggest thing this would mean for me is Panasonic committing to the M4/3 format for pro level video.
It's the reason I made the decision to add MFT to our kit as a serious investment in lenses.
There's a knowledgeable DP on this board that skirted an obvious NDA a while ago and it made me comfortable that my new found love of the "small factor" was not a passing thing.
I love that Panasonic has embraced this form factor, from tripods to cranes and everything else in or production rig, we've built a whole second, really small production package around it.
I've been waiting for someone (Canon completely lost us) to put everything in one small package. The GH3 came closer than anyone so far with an even better codec and frame rates than the C100 but still missing the pro features. Basically, anyone who doesn't use the standard that Sony has just established with the video features of the RX10 is simply not in the game going forward.
I also think it would be great to lose the photo aspect of the hybrid and keep the form factor. I'll aways do my photography with the Canon 5D and 1Dx and L glass because it's just the best there is in 35mm. But they jumped the shark with the pricing and missing features of the C100 (for us...still a great camera.)
They went one way and Panasonic is realizing the DSLR film making goal that a great many of us became enamored with after the original 5D.
They're smart for this. It will happily marry us and a lot of people to their MFT model and I'll pick up the 12-35mm and 35-100mm that I was ambivalent about with the new Sony camera.

If the GH4 is going to cost $3K for the body, then it had better be kick-ass when shooting video, otherwise why bother.
Specifically I will be interested in how good the 1080p image is, when taken from a 4K sensor. Moire and aliasing will have to be comparable (or better) to the image from a Canon C100.

I hope it's not a dslr form factor actually but rather in a practical af100 like body. With built in ND filters. That thing just works and is such a pleasure to shoot with. Light, smallish but not tiny and it has everything it needs in the base pack. I don't mind a dslr form factor by the way, as long as they'll also make a more than decent AF100 follow up

Oh, I personally hope it stays in the DSLR form factor. I love my GH3 cameras because I can rig them up to be huge or tiny and inconspicuous. And saves my shoulders from hauling too much weight.
A GH4K for $3000 would be amazing. I'd jump on it immediately.

I'm not too bothered about a global shutter any more. Sure, it would be nice, but if it comes at the expense of DR then I can do without it. Even shooting a lot of action sport at 50p, I don't notice the rolling shutter in the GH3 too much.
That aside, I have built a very good kit around the lightweight and compact form factor of the GH3. Personally, I would not consider the GH4 if it wasn't a DSLR form factor. I can rig a GH3 on the end of a lightweight carbon jib without too much counterweight and also rig it to a shoulder rig with EVF for lengthy handheld. DSLR-ish form factor is a must for me.

If it's going to compete the C300 for 1/5 of the price, I want it and I want it NOW!!! Please include 6 stop ND wheel for daylight shallow DOF.

I wouldn't take a global shutter if it meant a hit in DR and other than the BMC4K camera there is nothing under $30k with a global shutter. Definately not a make or break feature for the majority of users looking at $4K cameras.

The GH3 technically already has a 4k sensor. It just cannot read out that 4k of information at a high enough framerate. A GH4K could very well use the same sensor but with a much more advanced ability to read out the data and actually store it to something. Assuming the sensor itself can readout that fast without bursting into a ball of flames. If they do make a new sensor it will be to increase the readout speed. I doubt the pixel count will get any higher.
Want to know what the detail will look like with a 4k M4/3 sensor. Just take a still with your GH3 and look at the detail. That should give you a good picture of what 4K could look like from a GH4K camera?

Why is the 10-bit 4:2:2 rumor not getting as much attention? That is a huge improvement, enough to make me buy a camera on its own. I'd rather shoot 10-bit SD than 8-bit 4K...
It's all just rumors, but yes 10-bit 4:2:2 is a big step up from 8-bit 4:2:0.
Probably because everyone just expects it now from a 'pro(sumer)' level camera.

People's expectations don't always derive from current reality. Whether realistic or not, people are expecting 10-bit or better to be the standard in the near future. Blackmagic has planted such expectations.
