GH4 Panasonic GH4 Demand Outpaces Supply

Tell me about it... I was hoping to have one ordered for a project I start in two weeks. Yeah, that ain't happening...

If you're willing to buy from Canada, I can send you a couple of places here in Toronto to try. ( one store had 3 new GH4s sitting on the shelf when I checked last weekend )
 
There you go! First so many people were saying I don't have any need for 4K, now the same people, after seeing the Gh4's performance, are saying I must have 4K for my projects! Exactly what I predicted from the beginning.

4K! 4K! 4K!! 4K!!! OMG!!! 4K!!!

With all the hype over 4K of course they're going to sell a bunch of these. From the looks of it, it's also a decent camera at a reasonable price so that helps. In the end though, we all know that resolution alone doesn't make a great camera and we're still a ways off from really needing to deliver in 4K. It'll be interesting to see what the sales of this camera are a few months down the road.
 
I have a GH4 but have determined that 4k is just too much trouble to mess with. The GH4 produces outstanding 1080p and I am very happy with what I have shot so far.

Although 4K gives my computer some pause, I wouldn't want to go back to straight 1080p. Stabilizing footage is a dream at 4K and the final 1080p output is wonderful.

I'm not buying it for the 4K, I'm buying it for the better codec options, improved sensor, and portability (I have a few international projects coming up in the next few months where I need something smaller than my AF100). If it wasn't for the GH4, I'd be ordering a GH3 right now.

I mean, the 4K downrezzed to 1080 all looks really good, but it falls in the "that's nice to also have" catagory. It's not factor my purchasing decision.
 
I went GH4 because blackmagic 4k went all wonky with potential issue. Couldn't wait 6 months for a possible update to maybe fix things.
 
I went for the GH3 because beautiful 1080P is really all I need. I'm waiting for a camera that does 4K and then samples that to create the 1080p image like the C100. I used to work with one and that is the perfect balance. But despite that, the GH4 is about as good as anyone could hope for in terms of a 1st gen 4K camera. Great job Panasonic.

I bought because it will be the ideal B cam for my C100 - my 550d just doesn't cut the mustard any more. Also the 96fps function and reframing 4K will be great for 2 camera interviews. And of course its lighter and ideal for steady cam work etc.
 
The only thing this is saying is that their marketing works and that the US will get their cameras first as always. Those of us in Europe will have to wait again a few months...

Panasonic probably figured they're more likely to sell faster in North America (Canada got it at the same time) and make more money faster than Europe. If you have a finite supply for launch, you send them where they'll sell the fastest. I wouldn't take it too personally.
 
Being that I cancelled my order, I hope one of you are enjoying my camera;-) Seriously, I've seem some great night footage, the day stuff not so much, and it struggles terribly with choppy water, it looks plain weird the way it captures, it looks really digital, maybe it's the settings on the camera that need tuned in. As far as Black Magic, I like their new full sized camera, but as far as the cinema camera goes, or even the pocket camera, it's ridiculously under featured. It's comical the feature set, you know like guessing battery life in 2014 on a camera that costs around a grand or more. my 10.00 mp3 player has a battery bar. They really need to get their **** together, I'm seeing dozens of their cameras being given away since the gh4 came out. They have to be the most inconsiderate camera company I've ever seen.
 
I like 4K for post. It's not for everybody but it is for me. The GH4 is an incredible value and I think the image is very nice. YMMV.
 
Bloody joke here in the UK i pre-ordered nearly 3 months ago.I got this email off them yesterday..

Just to update you on your order. We have now had new information from our supplier, unfortunately there has been another delay and we wont be receiving the GH4 Bundles until the end of May.

I don't have any need for 4K. And I'm not ordering a G4.
Just what I predicted from the beginning 😊
