Panasonic GH3 Debut Viideo

Well still see rolling shutter in the train shot with girl. Expected. I think we just have to live with the RS these days.....

Very minimal rolling shutter in Canon Cinema EOS series cams, including the C100. Othr stuff may be missing but if no rolling shutter is your goal the they are your cams. I see you on the BMCC and C100 boards, so I figure you already know this.

My goal is color grading so I need 4:2:2 and wide DR, and we will we get that with the GH3?

Is that Philip Bloom at 2:47???? Looks like it to me! Regardless. I have a feeling this camera is going to ROCK IT! Please, for the love of all things living, UNCOMPRESSED HDMI OUT 422 8/bit

Yes, that's him. Haha, how's that for a bit of a cameo?!

Strange that "portability" is the marketing message for what looks to be the largest m43rds camera ever produced.

^ I'll take that as a good sign, it means they're pitching it against the big boys, not against Nikon 1.

Thanks for reposting Wendt, I hadn't seen the video yet!

I can't wait to see more GH3 footage, I'm sold on the camera. The only negative thing I have to say about this video is that the song is quite boring, considering they're trying to sell us to something which is supposed to be for traveiling and all that...

Hold on now... we don't even know if this is the final video or if it's simply one of many with others detailing the features such as the XLR and other connections. Maybe that's why it was pulled?

Noticed that as well. However, that train is practically flying past the camera, and the level of distortion, while visible, looks like it might be improved over the GH2. It's hard to say for sure, though.

Here is how we'll get audio:

i dont see multiple pins like I do on the HMC40 ??? Then again I could be totally wrong here.

Just everything is said so far - I can only add some chatter: This camera excites me! (Until the opposite is proved)

The rumoured specs say it does 75Mbit/s ALL-I. The MKIII does 91Mbit/s ALL-I and it's not great, Canon in their wisdom made it a variable bit-rate. If Panasonic have gone with a constant bit-rate it should be a lot better but with GH2 hacks running at 150Mbit/s why did Panasonic again go with substandard bit-rates? They're clearly trying to cash in on the indie filmmaking market so why not give the filmmakers what they want? They don't have any excuse this time around, they know exactly what we want. Perhaps they've crippled it a bit so they can gouge us with a $7000 pro camera. The BMCC is the only sub $15000 camera with a professional codec but almost every camera is technically capable of recording with less compression.

My hope is that the 75Mbit/s ALL-I is not just for 60p but actually records that high at 24p as well.

I would argue the HPX170, HPX250, and HPX370 are all well under $15,000 and all have professional codecs. The forthcoming PMW100, PMW200, PMW150 would make the same claim. The Canon XF100 and XF300 could argue likewise.

You could argue that the BMC is the only "large sensor" camera with a built-in professional-caliber codec (meaning, one that is accepted universally by broadcasters) and I would agree with that, but to just say it's the "only camera under $15,000" isn't an accurate statement.

Sorry I omitted "large sensor" from my rant. Small sensor cameras aren't really considered for indie filmmaking in this post 35mm adapter era.

Maybe Panasonic have tweaked ALL-I somehow to avoid macroblocking but I can't see a 75Mbit/s intra-frame codec being up to pro standard when pro intra-frame codecs like prores run at much higher bit-rates. 100Mbit/s M-JPEG was the minimum broadcast standard for SD capture back in the day.
